Hi. I got this burner a few weeks ago (NEC 3500 16x DVD+/-R writer with 4x Double Layer DVDR writing compatibility and 48x CDR writing compatibility) and it's only burning at 4.1x - 4.2x. It should be burning at 8x or even 16x i think. i normally use DVD decrypter or DVD shrink to backup my DVD's. Does anyone know how i can get it to burn faster without having to install hacked firmware, which, i am told will literally burn out my burner before its time. Cheers.
hi. thanks for the reply. excuse my ignorance but i have no idea how to check what firmware i have installed. please tell me how and i will check. as regards the media i am using - i use 8x Ritek ink datawrite discs. i bought some 4x ones recently as they are cheaper and i can't the NEC drive to write past 4.2x anyway - but if i could, i'd buy the 8x again. i think i probably need to update firmware at least. if i do the riplock thing would it destroy my drive? cheers.....
Download this free tool. It will give you information on your drive and firmware, will tell you manufacturer of blank media and many other good things. Here is the link. http://www.dvdinfopro.com. Hope this helps some. Jerry
