hi all. i have the NEC dvd/cd burner (don't have exact part...i'm at work), but the cd burning part no longer works. whenever i try to burn a cd-r for audio cd's, it does not see the disks. burns dvd's just fine tho. any clue what this problem may be and how to fix it? the burner is barely over a year old. thanks in advance for any help on this. ssylent
i've tried many different brands. even cd-r media that i've burned in the past no longer works, however the same brand in a dvd will burn with no problems.
Most brand names do not make their own discs; they buy them from one of about a dozen makers and slap their name on them. And they all change manufacturing techniques and quality all the time. If you are using CDs from the same spindle and suddenly they stopped working, it might be your drive. But if the case is just that you just bought more CDs and this spindle doesn't work even though the last one did, then that could be as much of a media problem as a drive problem. Find out from your drive manufacturer's website if there is a firmware update available. You might also find one at rpc1.org. That can help your drive recognize new media types. Try also using different burning software (or uninstalling your current software, rebooting twice, and then reinstalling). Otherwise, you might have to choose between experimenting with other media brands or buying a new drive.
