I think I know the answer....which is no. But thought I would ask and be sure.

I have a Nec DVD -/+ RW in the laptop..1 GB memory, etc. Also, have new Plexor 2.0 USB DVD -/+ RW that I can connect to the USB in the laptop.

Now....can I execute a program to read the "original" dvd in the NEC and auto copy to HD and then auto to the Plexor in the USB slot? Without me doing anything during the process?

And the answer would be..........has to be ripped to the HD first and then written to the DVD drive?

    Yes or no?

    Thanks.

What you are trying to do is burn on the fly. This needs a very fast and powerful PC. The amount of data and speed needed I think is out of the question with a laptop and USB drive. It would only work with dvd 5 size movies. Going dvd 9 to dvd 5 requires compression which can't be done on the fly unless the burner was dual layer (dvd9 to dvd9). So you answered your own question. You could try it with a dvd 5 movie. You would need a decrypter like Anydvd or DVD43 and a good copy program like Nero.

    Jerry........thank you.

    Does this change your opinion?

Both Nec & Plexor are dual layer.

    What do you think?

Well that means you can do on the fly with the larger dvd movies if using dual layer blanks. But again it comes down to system specs and speed. Only a test run will tell for sure. You may end up with a $10. coaster wasting 1 dual layer blank. You need to use Nero, RecordNow Max or similar program selecting the disc copy feature. You need Anydvd or DVD43 active and running when you start. If the PC and USB don't bottleneck the data somewhere it may work. I would find a small dvd 5 movie that will fit a single layer blank for a test. That way you can do the test with a RW. If it doesn't work you won't loose anything.
