I have a NEC ND-2500a I'm having problems with. 2 months ago I was up against the wall and had to reformat the hard drive. Ever since I can't get my drive to recorde DVD's. I can burn a CD, read CD, read DVD just not burn DVD. Is there any software out there I can use to check it with? I used NERO Info tool and Drive Speed and they don't help. I'm frustrated. As far as I know I have the most updated firmware.

Uninstall the drive via device manager and reboot.

    Moved to relevant forum.

Alright, I uninstalled through the device manager. It didn't work. I went out and bought dvd+r and now it works. I was using dvd-r and it wouldn't work. I have used dvd-r before reformatting and had no problem. Nero says the drive will do dvd-r.

Any education along this line would be helpfull.

Nope, spoke too soon. It was recording and now I've recieved and error to the recording and it stopped.

Is there some software I can use to do a diagnostic on the drive and see if all-of-a-sudden it's toast?

I don't know any diagnostic to speak of but....

...is pretty much a dinosaur in PC years. Might just be time to move on and get a new drive. They are relatively cheap at around $30-$40

Thank you for your help. I did start looking around. I thought maybe it did finally give up the ghost.

Locoeng, Thank you for all your help. It was the drive, dead. I purchased a Lite-on drive after checking out this forum. I was skeptical because of the price but people seem to like them. I put it in and visited the web site for lite-on and flashed the drive. Works great so far.

    Thanks again.
