Need advice please. I am choosing between NEC2510 vs Pioneer 107D. Cost difference or DL capability not an issue. Will be using DVD-R for better compatibility with my 3 yr old standalone player (Pioneer XV-HTD1). In fact, I'm getting Ridata 4X DVD-R 50 pcs cakebox from NewEgg. So I guess bitsetting capability of NEC is also a non-factor. Keep hearing that NEC has best write quality. Does this translate to higher success rates of burns? But aslo hear that Pioneer has better success with Ridata/Ritek G04 DVD-R's. Also saw in reviews that Pioneer has faster -R burning, and can read scratched discs better. Comments are hard to assess because a lot only have experience with one drive or the other, so it is usually biased. So comments from people with experience with both drives are very welcome. I guess bottom line is compatibility with my player, AND the Ritek DVD-R discs i will be getting. If the same, which do you think will be better? Would appreciate advice. Thanks a lot idoc
I own the NEC and ive burned around 20 dvd's (- r's) without making one coaster. It reads alot of the newer protections and it read a cd that was too scracthed to play in my standalone cd player. Its a great drive and its Just link and Burn Proof buffer underrun technologys make it hard to make a coaster!!
No.. sorry i havent really, i do want to get some cheap media to see which results i get with some lesser quality media, but right now all ive burned on were Memorex disks. The dvd player you have is nice because it supports both DVD +/- r and +/- RW. The pioneer drive would be nice expect that it for one doesnt do DL media and for two its more expensive. Just to point it out if your buying this drive from newegg.com (the nec nd 2510a) remember to click where it says to get your free 5 pack of dvd's... even if you dont want em there free!! edit and from checking the price on those ridata blanks... id be careful man, i know there manufactured by ritek but they are affuly cheap in price. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Stupid software companys.. making us jump through hoops to make legal backups of OUR games XD[/small]
Hi there, just to let u know I've just purchased the nec 2510a.. upgraded from the pioneer A05 i have been using ritek and ridisc on my pioneer and they were fine.. just burned my first film on the nec and was fine no difference in time taken.. hope this helps..
Thanks for the info. Have already asked somebody to order the Pioneer 107D and the Ridata 4X DVD-R's from NewEgg, but will be getting them by September. I just hope I'll have good results burning them at 8X, as others have been doing. If not, I'll just have to settle for 6 X or 4X.
I wouldnt.... espically if you try to accomplish this via hacked firmware. I installed my drives hacked firmware and used neros disk tool to check out the write speed and sure enough it went to 8x (big thing here being i burned 8x on a 4x disk) but ive never actually burned a disk with hacked firmware... too great a chance of failure up front and even if it does burn it will likley die soon afterwards. 8x media is comming down in price, and 4x will drop alot more once 12x media is out.
I don't get why people think DVD-R is better for compatability. All you need is a bitsetting utility, change the booktype to DVD-ROM and BAM your DVD+R is more compatable then a DVD-R could ever be. I think NEC's support bitsetting also.
