The drive is set on Secondary Master and Device Manager is set to UDMA2. I thought the 2.F8 firmware removed riplock, am I wrong?

why deplete the life of a riplocked dvd burner when you can use a cheap non riplocked dvd rom drive

Was that firmware from the manufacturer's site? If yes then I doubt it unlocked the drive. See if this site has a Hacked firmware.

Simple really... dvd burners shouldnt take the hassle of ripping a dvd rom... thats what dvd rom drives are made for.

Unless you rip 24 hours a day I doubt you will hurt a burner drive. Ripping is only using the laser at read power. I have no problem ripping with my burner. With the price of drives these days, most people replace them everytime a new model comes out anyway. Just my opinion.
