Question #1 Is it unnecessary to use ANYDVD or DVD43 prior to attempting DVD shrink or prior to decryptor? does DVDshrink or decryptor already perform this function as well? I would also like to thank all those who have put together a very informative site. Gigie P.s. I was referencing Pete's recipe that I have found useful as I research each software's role and function (see below) Pete's Basic Cooking Recipes 1. DVDShrink (ver. 3.0 Beta 5, ver. 3.1.4 and ver. 3.1.6 Beta 2) + Nero 2. DVD43 / AnyDVD (I have both) + CloneDVD 3. DVD43 / AnyDVD + DVD2One 4. DVD43 / AnyDVD + Nero Recode 2 5. DVD Decrypter in File mode, (for DVD-5's) + Nero 6. DVD XCopy Xpress (ver. 2.5.1, 3.0 and 3.2.1) + 321 Gone 7. Decrypter in ISO mode There ya go - Pete ******************* Question #2 Do I have this right? If decryptor is used to go directly to file then that in turn can be burned directly provided it fits on one DVDr but the decryptor iso image is utilized to edit out enough extras or compress so that the DVD9 can fit onto a single DVD?
Hi gigie, My buddy Pete is the man with the answers. If he tells you how to do something, you can't go wrong. As to your question about Anydvd or DVD43. Its not necessary to run them with Shrink or Decrypter. I only use Anydvd behind shrink on the few movies Shrink may have problems with. Probably less than 5%. It can't hurt, but not necessary. If I read part 2 right, You can use Decrypter straight up if the original is a dvd5 and no compression is needed. If the original is a DVD9, most go straight to Shrink and let it do the decrypting and compressing in one step. I personally use CloneDVD with Anydvd most of the time so I can edit out the trailers and extras I don't want, but can keep the menu intact and working. Hope this answered your questions. If not come on back. Someone will be glad to help. Jerry
Hello Jerry!!Quick question about cloneDVD. If u remove preview say 2Min,It leaves a 2Min blank. Is it useing the same amount of Byte Rate on the disc. you still have to f/f.Or skip to next chapter
HI Rick, To my knowledge, if you uncheck items in Clonedvd, they are removed not just blanked out. There may be some items linked that show up as blank areas, but for the most part removing items gives you less compression and a better over all quality. I just started using the New CloneDVD 2 which gives you a little better control over the opertion. The old version never gave me a bit of trouble. Jerry
Thanks,I have'nt tried the new Clone Yet.But I used the old a couple of times to remove Previews. But when I played the disk on my DVD Player,I had blank spots for the same length as the Previews 2to 3 min.& I had to just skip chapters
The older Clone I use is ver 1.3.9.8. I don't remember seeing any blank areas when removing anything. If I clicked an item in the menu that was removed, it blinks for a second, then loops back to the menu sort of telling me its not there. Ok other wise. Jerry
Hi Ya Gigie, Welcome to our little corner of the net Glad you came and joined our little A/D Club - Anyhoo-how-some-ever way, meaning we a-goinna answer youse inquiry Question 1. Was handled well by my "Amigo", - "Knowledgeable" Jerry. A lot of us, who have multiple programs that we play with, have either AnyDVD, Region Free or DVD43 running in the background. Me, I let AnyDVD run, DVD43 seems to bother some of my programs :-( Anyway - You don't have any reason to have it. Save yourself $40.00. Question 2. By using DVD Decrypter in the file mode and then using Nero to burn, well it just adds an extra, unnecessary step - maybe I should have left it out (?). My firm recommendation is DVD Decrypter in the "ISO Read" mode to rip a DVD-5 then switch to "ISO Write" mode to burn to disk - Ya just can't go wrong. (Well if you try to do a DVD-9 it won't work, toooo big :-( NOTE: When in the ISO Write mode, un-tick the box that says "Verify". It eliminates false error messages. New great new addition to the list, and belongs at the top is: DVD Shrink to backup your DVD in the ISO mode and then DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO files to disc. Fast, easy, and 100% FREE - No need to buy a single thing -) (Glad you liked my Recipe page.) Pete
gigie You can't go wrong listening to ScubaPete, I have never read a bad suggestion By ScubaPete, This guy knows what he is talking about. Just One Thing SP said that maybe NERO was an unnessary step??? NERO is never unnessary, It is simply THE BEST ALL IN ONE PROGRAM OUT THERE.
Hi there Searcher1, Welcome to our little club, I believe that the question dealt with doing a DVD-5 backup. My note was to mean that as long as we had DVD Decrypter out and open - it was simplier to read ISO then change to write ISO to disc. When I said that - I only meant that it wasn't necessary to open a second program for this particular project. We can always open more programs - I.E. Rip with DVD Decrypter in the "File" mode(a bad move that, could cause problems), DVD Shrink, "Open File", edit French and German out of your DVD-5, open DVD2One, open as a source and remove Spanish. Open Nero "Classic" and burn to disc - Who knows, could be fun to do it that way, lol Cheers Ya'll and thanks for the kind words - Pete
Don't know if this belongs in this forum or not but I thought I would pass it on anyway Blockbuster has a Helluva a special right now For $25.00 a month plus tx.about $1.75 u can rent 2 movies at a time.If any of u guys are like me I rent a lot of DVD's,that works out to about $6.18 a week. For me thats great as I go by Blockbusters about twice a day,& I'm semi retired. With the average New Releases at Blockbusters & maybe some of the ones u were'nt sure of.It could be about 10 movies a week.Or even at just 3 Movies a week thats only $2.06 per Movie http://www.blockbuster.com • Blockbuster Movie Pass: Unlimited Rentals. No Extended Viewing Fees.(More) Does this read better?
ScubaPete, I think what you said about DVD shrink and DVD Decrypter was right on the money. But, DVD Decrypter is only good for DVD-5 as we all Know. Too many people are getting confused with this ISO mode. Plus ISO mode causes read errors From time to time, File mode does not, AT LEAST ON MY COMPUTER. DVD Decrypter is too limited in that there is no compression built into the program limiting the burn to DVD-5. If DVD Decrypter came with a compression utility, I would use it Myself, I think it is a good program, As i said before DVD Decrypter is JUST TOO LTMITED!!! ScubaPete, We all learn form your experience, Keep up the good advice.
Searcher1, When using DVD Decrypter "Un-tick" "Verify" in the main screen, it should cut your errors to somewhere around ZERO - lol Point taken - Pete
Rick5447, that line you’re not supposed to cross, it’s behind you - - Common, you of all people know better, let’s edit that post - Pete
Searcher1 mentioned that ISO files caused read errors. [bold]Plus ISO mode causes read errors From time to time,[/bold] I would like to know when and under what circumstances. I use ISO files with several programs and have yet to run into a read error due to using ISO instead of the regular file setup. ISO and the FAT32 file system have some size issues. But that gets into Operating Systems and most folks are using XP with the NTFS file system (or should be). Even the Windows with FAT32 successfully split the larger ISO files. [bold]DVD Decrypter is only good for DVD-5 as we all Know.[/bold] Where did that gem come from? DVD Decrypter is an excellent decryption tool that will remove the encryption and rip large files to HD. The Decrypter is limited as a burning tool but can do the job. DVD Decrypter does not have an encoding program needed to fit larger files onto the smaller DVD5 discs. DVD Decrypter is primarily what the name implies, a decrypter; and a burning tool as a resort. If you notice, the Nero burning ROM doesn't have the encoding software. That is where programs like DVDShrink come into the picture. Does that mean one of the best burning ROMs on the market (Nero) is [bold]too limited in that there is no compression built into the program [/bold]. Sounds like some faulty reasoning because someone may have read something somewhere. Decrypter is an excellent tool for decrypting files and ripping files to HD as needed. It has limitations as a burner and as there are many better choices, I would advise using them. DVD Decrypter is a convoluted exercise in the use of freeware as a burner(it is free). Even DVDShrink, which does its own ripping, is set up to use Nero as the default choice for a burner. It is default because it is easy and works well with Shrink. Decrypter as a burner with Shrink is a multi-step exercise and not the easy way of doing things. [bold]One should learn what particular programs are good for, and use them for their best capabilities. Don't say a good decryption tool is a poor tool because the burner aspect is lacking. Just think, most of the encoding and burning programs no longer include a good ripper.[/bold] _X_X_X_X_X_[small][bold]'brobear'[/bold] [/small]
brobear, [bold]I think scubapete answered the IOS Problem too both My, and everyones satisfaction So lets move on. The subject under discussion was using DVD Decrypter as A burner with shrink. YES DVD Decrypter AS I SAID IS A GOOD PROGRAM, Pete Understood what I was talking about, LETS NOT BEAT A DEAD HORSE!
Great that Scubapete and Searcher1 speak the same language, and then there is the rest of the world... I believe the point of the fallacy was shown. Nuff said.
brobear, [bold] "Quote" Decrypter as a burner with Shrink is a multi-step exercise and not the easy way of doing things. [bold] Hello, Anybody Home????? These are your words, not mine. Decrypter As A ripper is OK, But as A Burner Is, [bold] JUST TOO LIMITED! (Even if it is Free) Yes, Scubapete and I and the hundreds of others he has helped with his INTELLIGENT COMMENTS, do speak the same language. THIS IS A FORUM, Not the world According to brobear, [bold] Nuff Said?
