I would like to create an MPEG-1 movie file with English subtitles from a DVD. (I have a deaf husband and he needs the subtitles.) I've studied and tried several guides for ripping DVD's and creating a VCD including the following guides: 1. http://www.clonead.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/converttovcd.htm 2. afterdawn DVD to VCD with SmartRipper, DVD@AVI and TMPGEnc. The first guide says to use cladDVD-XP to rip the DVD. If I want subtitles, then I have to choose No IFO Parsing. ok, I did that. Then it says to use FlaskMPEG. ok, I tried that. After processing for almost 24 hours, it got an error and the whole thing had to be dumped. The second guide using SmartRipper doesn't say anything about subtitles, and the software doesn't have any place to choose subtitles. Does anyone have a guide that will help me accomplish this task? Or at least tell me what software I should use.
http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/dvd_to_vcd_with_subs.cfm did you read that guide because its specific for subtitles??
Thank you! I didn't see that guide. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like exactly what I need. The guides on afterdawn are wonderfully clear and easy to follow. My compliments to your technical writers.
