right now i have the choice of getting either a gateway with a AMD 3800+ x2 or a AMD 3800+. Now i know that the 3800+ x2 is the better one because its dual processor and more recent, but if i got the 3800+ since im tight on money would that last me a good amount of time? P.S. i would just build a custom comp. but i dont have the time to buy everything and piece it together.
DEFINATELY get the X2. Seriously. I don't know about the prices wherever you live, but in Australia the difference between the 3800+ and the 3800 X2 is only $60. That's not much considering you get another core and a larger cache. Hope I have helped. Rubix
yea i am just gonna get the x2 cuz the price is only 50 dollars more exactly and also it says the 3800+ is 2.4GHz and the x2 3800+ is 2.0. is that because the GHz will be doubled because its dual processors? cuz to me it seems wierd that it would have a lower speed then a processer older than it.
I own A 3800+ X2 64 and all I have to say is you should not even bother asking this question. You will hate yourself for going for anything less at this moment. Edit: Yes each core works at 2.0Ghz. Also buy an HP if you can.
well actually i was gonna get a gateway because the hp was 100 dollars more with that x2. both are from best buy and not the seperate companies.
The X2 manages to do what the standard model does at exactly the same speed using a 400mhz slower core, and only using one. You can double the performance by having two in the best applications, so eventually you'll end up with an Athlon64 7600+, and with 64-bit optimisations, that'll act over 10,000 eventually.
