I bought a new HP Pavillion desktop with windows 7 os. I can't find a wireless pci express internet card anywhere. Do they make them? Can someone please tell me where to find one that is compatible.
I've only seen one...but it is made by d-link; so it is a piece of junk: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127218 You are better off just getting a quality USB adapter.
don't be fooled. there is no difference in performance between a PCI Add in card and a PCIe x1 add in card.
This is very true...I just figured he didn't have a free PCI slot. If he does, then PCI is a good option...no WiFi is capable of more than 133MBPS yet anyway.
Thanks guys, but that is the problem. This new pc i bought only has express slots. d-link was the only one i found too. Is it that bad?
what about a CNR slot do you have one of those. its a little brown slot all the way at the bottom of the motherboard. looks like this
I don't have any brown slots at the bottom but I have 3 black slots that look like that and another black one that is much longer.

your best bet is to use a USB Dongle for it then. there are not a whole lot of PCIe x1 cards out there for anything really. other than that research the d-link that K-bug gave it might be right up your ally. wanna hear something funny ive found several 56k modems that use PCIe x1, its more ironic than funny i suppose.
I know what you mean...I still have a few ISA 56K modems sitting around. PCIe modems are for super-eccono boxes like this HP, where someone wants to setup a fax server. USB would still be better; but if you wanted it internal and without any trick wiring, I guess PCIe would be the solution. The only good uses for PCIe x1 I have seen are for sound cards and video input cards...and the PCI versions of these cards are usualy better. I would stay away from that Dlink...it has three antennas, yet gets worse reception than most internal-antenna wifi dongles. Plus, dlink has never been able to do anything well to begin with. If you want an internal WIFI adapter, you can always get a USB unit with an external antenna plug. Then, either find or drill a hole that the screw-on wifi plug will fit through nicely. Get a thin nut to fit the wifi plug, and use that to secure the wifi adapter inside the system. Then just use a USB header plug to connect the adapter to the mainboard...but wouldn't it just be easier to use an external dongle?
here is another that is made by hp. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GV2320...0341&creativeASIN=B001GV2320&tag=cnet-1834-20
