i have an old E Machine and i want to install windows XP on it. I also bought a new dell a while back and it came with the XP disc for re-installing windows XP. I want to use that XP disc if it is possible so i dont have to buy another one. The E Machine was given to me so i dont know much about it...Except it has 128mb ram, duron processor, 16 gig. HDD, and windows 95. i also need to know how to find out the system specs. i have tryed going to control panel and opening the system icon but it dosent tell me much.
ok i found the cpu is a AMD duron spitfire. would it be reasonable to install windows XP on this machine. if so how would i do it and could i use the cd that came with my dell. i olny plan to use the machine for music and typing but i want windows xp on it
is the xp cd a ms disk or emachine? is it a restore disk or a full blown xp? can get away with 128meg but should at least double it to perform faster.
no you cant use the restore dic from dell to install XP on the Emachine, those discs are written for dell systems....
the XP cd i have that came with my dell is a burgendy (red) cd that says Operating System on the top of the disc. if i cant use this cd on the e machine could i put the HDD from the e machine in my dell and install xp on that HDD then put it back in the e machine and boot xp? (if u dont understand what im trying to say let me know)
see what happens when booting off the dell cd on the emachine. it will either work, might have problems with drivers that can be fixed after or not work at all.
ok i will do that and see what happends if it dosent work i will post aother question. how would i go about booting the machine from the cd.
i also want to compleatly "clean out" this computer are there any files in the bios that i need to delete to make the computer "like new" meaning no other files besides what it came with.
