Need basic education on DVD files

I would like to learn about the various files and formats that I see on dvd's. For instance
Video_TS.BRP
Video_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.1FO
VTS_01_0.VOB
etc, etc, etc.

Is there a tutorial somewhere that I could study?
You may ask, why - I just want to know how these DVD's are structured and perhaps that will help me in editing or modifying them.
