Hi there, I have been reading alot of the messages here and on other sites, and I am still lost. What I am looking for is really easy to read and understand instructions on how to burn a DVD from a movie that was downloaded...from start to finish. The more I read the more confuzzing this gets. It can't be all that hard..is it Do I need 4 or 5 different programs to do this and how do I convert it to player on my stand alone DVD player. I keep reading that you need this program and that program...is there just one program out there that does it all. I hope someone out there can provide me with some easy to understand info. Thanks... Prityladi
Hi Prityladi, D/L DVDShrink: http://www.dvdshrink.org/ If you have Nero you can use that to burn to the DVD Blank Media. Inside Shrink under the backup button you can tell it to burn w/ Nero. Get 1 or 2 RW's to practice w/. Guide to use: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm If you do not have Nero you can use Shrink to create an .iso image file>save to HD after doing analysis and backup>burn w/ DVD Decrypter. So you really only need 1 to 3 programs max to burn and this depends on how you want to do the burn.
Hello welcome to Afterdawn forums!!!!! I think she wants a transcoding tool, not ripping, you should be able to find a guide here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ that will fit your needs. There are also a few programs you could try dvdxmaker (I know it sucks) DVD-lab, look at the guides under dvd-r and there should be something that will fit your needs.
Mainconcept mpeg encoder is a great program for converting your d/led movie into mpeg2 (dvd standard) and then just open that new file in dvd labs or tmpgenc dvd author to create the menus, chapters and such and that's it. I use recordnow dx to record the outputted file to dvd, but the check the guides, they are indeed helpful.

No prob. Just do the reading and then start messing around with the software. You'll probably have questions along the way which is why we're here Have fun.
To Prettyladi I thought i might share with you my experiences with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink 3.1.7 First of all their is a way i love to use the two programs. I use a Pentium 3 800Mhz with 256meg sdr ram 20 gig hard drive sony dvd rom and a NEC 8x 2500 DVD burner. 1) Insert your DVD in the DVD reader and load DVD Decrypter. Make a new folder in your documents folder called the name of the movie and then decrypt the full dvd to that file. It should take approx 15 mins. Do not use ISO, it causes to many problems. 2) Open DVD Shrink and go open the file in your documents folder that you decrypted the DVD into. Then go to re-author and get rid on the main menu and other stuff except the movie. Double click the movie and slide the file to the left. A compression rate of 65% plus is still excellent quality but the higher the better. Go to the back up button on top of the screen and save the compressed file in your documents folder as the movie name and then the word compressed after that so you do not get confused with the first full decrypted folder. This should take approx 40 mins -60 mins to compress depending on how much compression you can utilise. 3) Once completed use the lastest Nero 6 to open the compressed file and burn to DVD. The whole process should take 1 hour and 30 mins. You need the following, DVD Decrypter DVD Shrink 3.1.7 Nero 6 Burning DVD Cd Software that should come with your purchase of a DVD Burner. The above software is the best of the best. Good Luck
thank you furbuger, it seems to me that I have some reading to do and some programs to download. I have nero 6, this is a great program, very user friendly. Question, is decryping and converting the same thing? I guess I should read the glossary on the trems to help understand stuff too. Thank you again...everyones help is very much appreciated. Yes I will probably have questions as I go...and will post them when I do. prityladi
Decrypting is the process of stripping out the copy protection and converting is the process of compressing the movie to fit on a blank DVD. With you being new to the burning scene I would suggest starting with DVD Shrink - it will decrypt, compress and burn in one step (using Nero to burn). No offence towards Furburger, but using DVD Decrypter first is an unecessary step especially when you're new to this. Ocassionally Shrink will run into a title it can't deal with which is where DVD Decrypter comes into play. I'll post this link to a guide for Shrink again because it's the best out there to get you started: http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm
Hi again... Thank you..Nephilim I will look that one up..one program does more than just one thing...sounds like one I need being as I am really green on this stuff.... but with all your advice I have gotten from everyone..I have hope again... thaks again.. Prityladi
