Need easy way to get avi onto DVD with simple menu

Complete beginner here who grows more confused the more he reads. I have a few avi files from my camcorder which I would like to put on a dvd with a simple menu (one button for each file). Could someone suggest what software I should use to get this done in a relatively easy manner? I have nerovision express 2, but have read that it is horrible for encoding. Could I use some other encoder to convert to mpeg and then use nve2 to create a menu and burn? Thanks for any input.

 

Since you're planning to use nve anyway, why not try it with the avis to see if it works to your liking. Nve is not very good at encoding, but it's a nice tool for making a menu et..
