I've read the other post on recommended dvd writers, but I can't seem to find any "recommended" ones that are in this format. The only one that seems to be available is the Panasonic that Dell uses and I have a Dell laptop. I think there may be a TSST model, but I have one of them and it has been terrible. Does anyone know where one can be purchased (would like to use a reputable vendor)? What are opinions on the Panasonics, as I have not owned one? Thanks very much ahead of time for your help/feedback!Choices are few right now and that's why I need to make the best one. I'll be in deep gratitutde for any help. If I can't get it here I want get it anywhere. This sight is second to no one!!
Nothing wrong with samsung burners.. more likely you use bad disks... but the sammys have the best read capabilities in their class from my experience. The panasonic things are ok.. just ok.. usually toshiba/liteon.. in other words.. ht-dt-st junk... Last dell lappy came through here had a samsung dvd burner in it that worked fine after getting the proper dell motherboard drivers installed.
My only experience was with 2 Inspiron 1525 that both had TSST DVD/RW-DL and both of them sounded like they were going to fly apart when you placed any type of disc in it, whether it was a cd or dvd. Sounded the same way if you booted to it as well. Possibly a bad model since they were both exactly the same. My NEC I have in my Latitude by far has been the smoothest, quitest and most consistent drive I've used. It's still going strong too, but I can't squeeze it in to my M4400. The model of TSST that was a problem is the TS-632H. Dell list a Phillips - Lite On DU-8A2S DVD/RW DL drive for the M4400. Maybe that is the one I should be looking at?
