are they downloaded movie files or store bought DVDs ?

could be your using poor qualty media or to fast a burn speed.

use Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim or Sony burning at 6x to 8x max

I bought DVD Santa and had no problems with the first 3 movies, they worked great. Now for some reason after I burn a movie and try to play them on my dvd player, some are playing in fast forward and some are playing like someone is hiting the skip button. I’m not sure what is going on, I think something is going wrong during the encoding process. I also have FAVC & Imgburn, and having the same problems. Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong. I just can’t understand why 3 worked and now no others will work. I’m not sure if i could have accidently erased something off my computer that was needed for the encoding process. When I downloaded these programs I was also told to download these Directx, latest version of windows media, Xvid codec, Divx Codec, AviSynth, Media Info. Am I missing something needed, or do I need different programs?

They are AVI files. I do have cheap media, but thats not the problem. The files are not encoding right. The first 3 movies I can open with DVD Shrink, all the others I can't it says it can't open file. Thats why I beleive something is going wrong during the encoding process.

Does anything need to be downloaded with it to make it work? Codec?

I tried using DVD Flick and got an error message. I'm going to try it again and if I get another error I will post it on here. How much space needs to be free on my HD to burn a movie? My HD is just about full, I have 29GB free.

    29 GB should be plenty.

what kind of media are u using? If its a store brand (i.e. compusa) then no wonder why your having problems. IF its memorex, or windata... its probably already a coaster. If its anything else verbatim, hp, sony, jvc... u should be fine. Media can be 6th 8ths of the problem, not necessarily the burner.

I think Zoso covered that in his initial response, although due to some post timing errors it's out of place.

It is memorex that i'm using, but still beleive something else is going wrong. With the first movies I encoded I can open the file with DVD Shrink. Now when I try to open them I get an error message saying
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
    Invalid data in file "C:\TempDVD\Video_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB"
That's why I think something is going wrong during the encoding process. I installed Spybot around the time all the trouble started, could it have erased something?

Have you tried the software called TMPGEnc or Nero 7?

No I haven't. I tried again last night with DVD Flick. Everything was working fine until it got to Author DVD and I got an error.
ERR: Error opening C:\Users\HEATHER\Documents\dvd\dvd/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB: Permission denied
I have been having problems deleting files on my computer. I had to turn user account control off to delete some files on my computer. I recently installed Spybot, could that be what is give me all the trouble?

I figured out what the problem was. It was vista codec installed on my computer. Thanks to everyone for trying to help me.

I am just glad someone took the time to actually post back when they solved their problem and how they done it. Wished more would follow that example so that everyone had the opportunity to benefit, that is what this site is all about. Good job problem solving hbowen.
