Just bought a Dell laptop with no OP system,it has a 40GB 5400RPM Hard drive.I have a Dell Dimension 8400 and was wondering if i could just clone the Dell Dimension Hard drive to the 40GB Hard drive in my Laptop. The Dell Dimension has a 140GB Hard drive but im only using 25GB of the Hard drive.I thinking about getting a data transfer kit to use.Does anyonr know if that could work, and how to do it?? Thanks anybodys help would be nice.

If it is Windows XP, it will not work. You will be able to clone the drive, but XP will not boot. It will BSOD on you right away. The two machines have completely different hardware and XP will puke on you when you try to boot. Does the laptop have a COA? If it does, there should be an installation key on the tag. That gives you the right to install the OS on there (well, for whichever OS the key is for).
