I have never tried to do this before so sorry if I sound dumb. I have ten avi files they are about an hour each and 350 MB. I am trying to use ulead movie factory to make the dvds but I also have dvd rebuilder if it will work better. The problem I have is when I add only two of the avi files to the project, it says that I am up to 5.4 GB and so I can only fit one of the avi clips onto a dvd. I know that I should be able to get at least three of them on there. Should I first convert the avi files to a different format? The output type I have chosen is dvd. Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I want to be able to add a menu to the dvd so that the individual clips will be selectable. I used the search feature but did not find anything under ulead to address my problem. I want this dvd to be playable in most any dvd player so I'm using standard dvd format.
Thanks in advance for any advice that somebody can give me.

    hi

not sure on your app, but an app i recommend is called ConvertXtoDVD you can test on a free trial for so long (leaves a watermark on results till paid for)

but this app is real easy to use/learn and if you drop 5 avi's in will will convert to dvd and make 5 menu links...

    great for episodes...

ConvertXtoDVD is the new better encode and generally all better version of divxtodvd (which wasnt brilliant)

    Rotary,

ConvertXtoDVD v2.0.9... How does the converted file look? Many artifacts? Any bug in this software? I have never used it, and am wondering how it compares to the freebe version.

    hi there

the new version is in my mind awesome and in testing i use TFM/CCE for avi to dvd and the results from that are like the avi you first loaded quailty on the resulting out put of dvd files, its like looking at the avi but its a dvd

and convertxtodvd is the same, there new encode engine is truly awesome, divxtodvd in my testing couldnt achieve this you saw a quailty loss on dvd files...

plus now it makes a simple menu and a couple of other tweaks its dam amazing and fast (i set options on HIGHEST QUALITY) love it... better than nero nve and dvd santa winavi...

Thanks very much for the replies. I am already in the middle of a conversion using ConvertXtoDVD 2.0.9.119. If it does not work I will try Nero but I have had a lot of problems with Nero. I have version 7 and I don't like it at all. I am going to try and put four of the episodes on each disc. I am a few MB over on each of the three discs though. Should I attempt an overburn or should I use DVDshrink 3.2 to get it down to size? I will report back with the quality when it is finished.
What would you recomend for the size problem? Disc one is total 4.42 GB and the other two are 4.41 and 4.39 GB. I know it's not much but this is for an old friend and it's kind of important for me. I truly appreciate all the help from you guys. Any ideas?

Shrink or Nero Recode 2 will do just fine.

If you want to go the extra mile, try DVD Rebuilder with CCE. Not really nessecary with a file that size though.

I would use Nero Recode or shrink...

    I'm rambling...

    hi

just a quick note, if i get say an avi with a audio sync out issue i can correct that easy enough but sometimes big boy encoders like CCE now dont like the makeup of the avi and throw a wobbler but convertXtoDVD does not and excepts all... great stuff

So if the total file size after conversion was large (say 5+ GB) then dvdrebuilder with ccs would be a good tool to use? I have this installed on my computer SP 2.67 I think or something like that. I was going to uninstall it because I can't really figure how to use it properly. Is it worth learning to use this tool? My brother gave it to me he said it was really expensive but I'm new to the DVD thing so just trying to figure out which tools are the best for now. I'd like to use the best tools available. I can learn how to use them if they are complicated and I do not care about which is the fastest. I care mostly about video quality.

So to sum up I have used ConvertX to create the dvd file I made a menu and everything with it. After the conversion is finished I will write the disc using DVDShrink. For a bigger converted file is dvdrebuilder better than dvdshrink?

Thanks again for all of the advice.

cce is complex but i use it in conjunction with TFM for avi to dvd (it sorts the settings out better)

but for you use convertxtodvd as it makes the menu links if useing say 3/4 avi's... alot easier...

also convertx will make the avis fit a dvdr!

and it will burn to dvdr to if you set options! so an all round good app to play with...
