I am new to this Board so hope this is right place to ask for help with this issue.

    I have the following equipment.
RCA HD Projection 52 Inch TV--about 4 years old
Directv HD Sat Receiver 6 months old
Pioneer Dolby Digital Surrond Sound system that plays cd's & DVD's-- 4 years old
Samsung DVD/VCR Player Recorder--new--supposed to play all formats
XBOX Game System-- about a year to 1 & 1/2 years old.

I used the RGB High Res. Cable to connect the TV and the Receiver. Incoming SAT cable and off air antenna are connected to the Sat Receiver. The surround sound system is hooked up to the TV using Monster audio/video and S cables. The Samsung is connected to the TV using the Component Video Cables. Since I don't have the HDMI/Divi spots on the TV I could not connect it to the TV using that type hookup. The XBOX is connected to the front component spot on the Samsund DVD player.

Everything works, no issues with any of the systems working. The problem is trying to record form the Surround Sound System DVD player to the Samsung DVD Player. I can record from the TV Receiver, the XBOX works great, I can record from my old DVD player by plugging it into the component ports where the XBOX is hooked up with no trouble. But when I try to record from the Surround Sound DVD player to the Samsung DVD player I get absolutely nothing, no sound or picture even though the dvd is playing on the TV screen and we are watching it. The Samsung shows its recording, but when I try to play it back there is nothing there. This is from a DVD that I recorded not anything thats copyright protected. And it's a New blank DVD-R disc that I am trying to record to.

Anyones help would sure be appreciated. In beginners terms, please, I'm pretty new to this rats nest of wires I have behind the TV. Thank goodness its a big TV so it hides them all.

I have the pretty much the same miles of wiring myself!
When you record from an external source, usually a recorder neeeds to be set to one of the Line Input settings. Check your manual - see what input channels you have on the recorder for recording from different external sources and try each of them. My JVC has one channel for tuning to its own internal TV channel receiver, and a Line 1 and Line 2 input. I have to set it to Line 2 for external input from my SKY TV satellite receiver/recorder.
Very interested to hear how it goes.

Another thought is, are you using a Scart lead or RCA connectors between the two?? If your satellite box output is connected to your recorder input, where/how are you connecting the DVD player to an input on the recorder?
