I hope I am posting this in the right area. We have several items connected to our tv and I can't figure out how to hook up the DVD Recorder correctly. I will try to describe what I have to the best of my ability. Any help is greatly appreciated. From the back of my cable box I have a coaxil cable coming out of the [bold]Satellite In[bold] going into my wall. [Out to tv] cable goes into [Ant. In] on my VCR. [S Video] cable goes into [S Video] on back of tv. [Vide 1, Audio 1L, Audio 1R] cables go into the [vidoe 1] slots on back of tv. From the back of my VCR I have a [RF Out] cable going into the [UHF/VHF] slot on back of my tv. From the back of my DVD player I have [Audio Out R, Audio Out L and Video Out] cables going into [video 3] on the back of my tv. Now my dilemma is, How do I hook up my DVD recorder? I have no idea where any of the cables should be run to. If anyone can give me any insight as to what I should do, please do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Before I can attempt to help you I need to know more. What do you want to use your recorder for, do you want to be able to record tv programs onto DVD and if so, do you also want to be able to copy VHS tapes onto DVD or just one these. And also what kind of cable box do you have, is it a dgital box that has the audio/ video inputs/outputs on it.
also what is the brand and model of your recorder so I can look to see what kind of inputs/outputs it has. Might help if you list brand and model of VCR and cable box as well. With this info I can look and see the hook ups these units have on the internet and It will help me more.
[ pickle111 ] The set up you give does not sound as though are using the best connections for the equipment. However I would think that the system had worked when a DVD was not an issue. Remove the cables from the VCR output to the TV, install them to the DVD input terminals. Add cables from the DVD output terminals to the TV. This is placing the DVD in line with the system as the VCR was before. [Make sure that the VCR is first in line} Both the VCR and DVD will have to be in power on. I would think the VCR had to before.
i have a similar problem in that i have a digital cable box and would like to record programs through it when i am not at home. i have a cyberhome dvr1200 and my available connections are as follows: CABLE BOX: cable in, to tv/vcr, audio out, video out (rca), component out DVD RECORDER: antenna in/out, video input 1, stereo audio output, composite video ouput,s-video in, component out TV: composite in (2), hd component in (2), ant-A, ant-B, ant out i realize that i can use the composite video/audio rca wires to connect from the digital box to the recorder but that means that i cannot record unless i am watching the channel that i want to be recording. that is a problem. i want to be able to record when i am not home. if you have any suggestions for me i would appreciate it. my only solution is to possibly run a cable splitter: 1 to the digital box and the other to the dvd recorder (which then i can just record in basic cable).
Also have a 1200 [More later] It sounds like the TV has a Video 1 & 2 input. The Cable Box Is it possible with your service to record 1 ch and view another. Example: I had a cable service with a reciever and I could record a ch. and veiw another. In this scenario a line splitter might be OK. I now have satellite service and cannot do this. In this scsnario What the reciever is tuned to, is it. Why is Recording when not home, a problem. Did you have a VCR in the system prio to the DVD and did it do what you want.
i did not have a vcr. i guess im just having a problem setting up a recording becuase it appears that whatever the digital box is tuned to is the channel that shows up under the av1 source on the recorder. if this is not the case, what connections did you use (step by step how did you connect everything)
Sounds like you have the same setup as satellite service.I have two satellite recievers and two recorders so its no problem. Take your Cable Box composite [RCA jacks] output [I would presume the rear jacks] and connect them to the DVR composite input and the composite output to the TV input 1 or 2. With this connection the DVD will have to be power on while viewing the TV. If you use the DVD it will automaticaly go to DVD. Remember after you use the DVD to view a DVD, you will have to use the sorce button on the DVD remote to reset the DVD to the input you are using. I would again presume the rear [Video/Audio 1 ]. This should work. The setup you describe using a cable service does not seem right. Check with the cable company. IF you can view one CH and record another, a line splitter is in order.
