    hi ,

i am sorry if this is in the wrong place, i collect concert footage and have alot of it on ton's of dvd+R's along with backup's .all of it is from the 70's and i transferred alot of old vhs to dvd+r , the problem is the dvd+r takes alot of room and i will problay never watch them very much , my question is this . i am thinking of buying a external hard drive , i can get a 1 tb for 100.00 at wal-mart and can put most of them on their for storage and i would not need the dvd+R any more . is this a good idea and what would be the best way to store them on the hard drive , like use imgburn and store the image on there or should i use dvdfaba and store the folder on their . what would you guy's recommend , thanks for any help . i was just wondering if this would be a good idea and would it be a good long - term storage idea , thanks

Keep them on disc, a drive can go a lot easier. Discs will last longer.

Use AnyDVD you can put the Video_TS folder on the hard drive.

I have +4,000 Back ups, plus the Originals DVD's...they maybe will be ok for the next 50 years.
A do not trust the External Hard drive unless you make another back up External Hard drive also just like most Business do. The second back up external Hard drive can be store in your house or in the bank in case your business got on fire or else, etc.

    Hope this help.

If you put 200-300 DVD's on an external hard disk and the disk goes bad (as happens) you have lost 200-300 DVD content.

If one disk goes bad - you still have the other 299.

As someone pointed out - Disks last longer than the hard drive - I don't care how much you pay for the hard drive. Buy a hard drive back up your DVD's but don't dispose of the DVD's
