Hi info10456 They're usually just plug and play and use the windows drivers. What the make and model? How are you connecting by a usb 2.0 port? Might just try 1st disconnecting the drive, power it down, reboot the pc and power on and plug back in.
http://www.iomagic.com/Products/show_all_results.asp?ProdID=IDVD16DDME yes ive tryed the one in the front & back of my comp.
info10456- Did the usb Jacks on computer work before you bought the external Drive ? With other devices ? a camera or Flash drive perhaps ? If so As much as I would hate to be the Bearer of bad news then maybe your External drive is Bad ? have you tried your external drive on another computer & if so does it work then ? if so than the burner is okay & the computer is at fault ? Even if your Usb jacks are Usb 1 & the drive is Usb 2 it should still work albeit slower ! Wish I could be more helpful than this ! Hope you sort it out soon ! Have you tried replacing your usb cable ? perhaps the drive & computer are okay & the cable is bad? Hope it works out better for you soon ,Merry Xmas info10456!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ciao!
yes i had a flash drive in there just yesterday & my sister always uploads pics from her phone onto the comp. i only have 1 comp. & my friends live kinda far=( it seems that one of them has to be broken huh..............damn
From the link you gave this one comes w/ a driver cd - have you installed those? (thinking you more than likely have but never hurts to ask ) Any other usb cable you can try? When it's connected does Windows even see it in my computer or check device manager and see if there's anything there.
this is what i get when i go to the driver cd http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/info10456/dvddriver.png this is what i get when i go to device manager http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/info10456/Untitled-2.png
this is the results of the driver cd: i was thinkin it was the "setup" button(last pic) but when i press it a pop up that says http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/info10456/Untitled.png the error comes first then when u click ok the next comes up but it still doesnt seem to recognise my burner the "deluidrv" icon is an uninstall i think i get nothing with "delentry" or "USBMonit" i cant open the "geneuide" i have no idea what "IconCfg", "geneuide", or "genedisk" are saying "GeneIcon.dll" gives me this http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/info10456/Untitled-1.png
Ok when you put in the install cd in it should just start with the installation instructions. The files showing in the pics would be installed then thru the installer. Did that not happen? Oh do you mind editting your 1st post? The link is throwing the thread out of whack
Bigtoxy69 has the right idea. Since the USB socket seems to work, then it's probably the USB cord-connection itself, or the optical drive is not working and not sending a signal. Are you powering the drive up? It should have a power cord to plug into. Will it light up? Will the tray open? One thing is sure the pc is not recognizing the drive otherwise it would be listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives, with a drive letter and as a USB device. Binkie7 said it right this is basically plug and play. First try another USB cord. Then try the drive on another pc. Is this a brand new drive or just new to you? If it was just bought, I would go back to the store and have them see if one of their pcs will recognize it. And if they don't I would ask for a replacement both drive and usb cord.
thats what i was thinking. yeah it seems to be working & everything but its like the signal isnt making it to my comp. how am i sopposed to get another one do they sell them seperate? its brand new its not exactly a computer store but it does have a computer section can i really exchange it after i opened & everything??
Yes you should be able to do an exchange at least I would think. Hey if it doesn't work take it back. I would. What store was it? Big chains usually have good return policies. You can buy usb cables separately. Happen to have an extra one or maybe one being used for something else you can try? edit to add: txs for editting the post!
it was from staples. nope plus the usb cable is not the same on both ends the one for the burner is in kind of a half octagon shape
Then you should be good returning/exchanging it since it's from Staples. If you near me I'll drop a cable by - I seem to have a collection of them
Staples sells them, Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Max, Office Depot. Pretty common to find in those stores.
Staples should take it back, heck they were taking back used print cartridges that cost $1.59 and giving $3 credit! LOL
