Hi, I fianlly have my PC all built

    AMD 62 X2 3800+
    geforce 7800 GT 256
    eVGA NForce 4 SLI MB
    1GB Corsair
    160GB Maxtor 7200 HD
    Toshiba CD/DVD-RW SDR5372V
    Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110DBK
    WinXP Home

I've updated the amd driver, video card driver, and updated windows, I'm having a really hard time finding the drivers for the DVD drives, I've checked the manufacturers websites but no luck, they seem to have all the models i don't need. And the drives are running pretty poorly right now, the pioneer hardly works, I guess i shouldn't have bought it oem. Any help would be awesome.
Also do I need to get windows XP pro X64 if I have a dual core processor, with normal XP home windows lags really bad sometimes, games are running awesome though, but even installing a 2 MB program takes a while. do harddrives need drivers?

drives uses windows default drivers. as for slow speed on the rom drives, check in device manager under ide controllers(?) to see if the dma is on on both primary & secondary. are both rom drives dvd burners or just 1? are both rom drives on same cable or seperate? if on same than how are they jumpered as in master, slave or cable select?

I think I've found a problem, in device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers there are 3 sub catagories,
-NVIDIA nForce4 ADMA controller (which is empty in primary and secondary)
-NVIDIA nForce4 ADMA Controller (also empty)
    -NVIDIA nForce Parallel ATA Controller

Under the ATA controller, the primary channel is my hardrive as master and the secondary channel has the toshiba DVD-r as master with Ultra DMA 2-Ultra33 and the slave is the pioneer DVD-R with Ultra DMA 4-Ultra 66.

Does that sound correct? this is my first time building a pc and I really have no idea what I'm doing lol. I have the jumpers set correctly for master and slave.
the pioneer drive has a really hard time reading cd's and sounds like a turbine jet getting ready for takeoff. The toshiba is ok but also sounds like a turbine jet. should i get rid of the pioneer and buy a normal CD drive for cd's? Also my CDRWIN program says i do not have any cd drives installed, but nero works fine

Congratulations on building your own computer, it's a great way to learn.

This program, although it is not free, scans all your installed hardware and searches, downloads, and installs all the latest drivers for them.

You can also save the new drivers to CD so in the case of a reformat you can have your hardware up and running at optimum in a very short time.

The default drivers that Windows install, although sometimes generic, and sometimes out of date are usually OK but you will do better with the 'real ones'

it is just the location of the server were the drivers are.

    No problem Ocean.

Sometimes, when you are looking for drivers, or especially firmware updates, Google the exact drive model instead of going to the manufacturer's site and trying to look around. As you have seen, not all servers will have what you are looking for, and their search engine only scans the servers in which it is used on. Google, on the other hand, has search info from around the globe.
