    Hey,

I am currently in the market for a surround sound system. I basically need it to be compatible with my Xbox 360 and the PS3 when it comes out. I have no idea what to buy or how much they are, but I'm not looking to spend too much as the PS3 will be consuming most of my budget. I have an Insignia 27" HDTV (480p) if that matters.
Thank you in advance for any help,

I would start by considering how many devices you have for input or source. You have mentioned the PS and the Xbox.
I am assuming you have a DVD player to hook up as well.

You have to start answering some questions:

Do you want 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound?
Depending on this question, yoou have to start thinking about the speakers that you will be driving.
Also, do you want features like video up-converting or not?
How do you plan on connecting your TV? By composite signals or not?
Do you need to consider HDMI connectivity or not?

As you can see, it is not as simple as me saying go buy component X, model Y. There are lots of consiferations that only you know the answers to.
In short, you are going to have to read up on many different models and comapring what they can do with what your needs are (or going to be).
Here is a good site to start reading and comparing various brands and models:

    Good luck!
