Hello everybody and sorry if I posted in the wrong section.
I rarely come in the "Other PC hardware" forums to no right from wrong, hehe.

Anyways I need help with overclocking my Geforce 6800GT praphics card as I cannot seem to overclock past 370 MHz core clock fequency or get any higer with Memory clock frequency which is at 1.06 GHz

I have seen posts that this card can overclock at 450 MHZ and 1.XX (I forget that number) but they are way past my clock frequencies.

here is a pic of my clock frequencies and set frame rates.

As soon as I set a clock frequency (which was 375 MHz and 1.07 GHz) and do the "Test Changes" it tells me my test failed and lower my settings. I do not select "Detect Optimal Frequencies" or should I?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    These are my computer specs:

MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce3 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

    XFX PVT40AUDF3 Geforce 6800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

Hi there Geestar! I noticed that you have "35 frames to render ahead" is that default, 'cos both of my 6800s are set to 3 frames etc etc..?
I have noticed if you detect optimum settings, then repeat a couple of times, the settings do increase.
Not sure if I was any help......don't wish to spoil the habit of a lifetime!
Some cards are stronger than others, it may be just that your card isn't strong enough for the higher clock settings.

the default setting is 3 but I just made it 35 frames, is this bad? Is it the lower the better?

    Thanks for your responce.

I would have thought that if it had to render loads of frames ahead, then would that not make the card work really hard? Possibly lowering performance? I am not too sure about this, a bit too deep for my tiny brain!

I am using coolbits to unlock the overclocking features but I am at a loss as to why I cannot get past my current overclock speeds??

RivaTuner is a bit over my head at this point but I am willing to learn how to use it if someone would be so kind as to direct me.

I just did a benchmark with 3DMARK and my score was 8476 3DMarks, is this good bad or the ugly?

Have you registerd with the futuremark orb so that you can compare your results with others of a simillar setup as you .....

Geestar, which 3D mark did you get that score with? '03? I got 10350 with 3D Mark '03.

Thats about right for your clock speeds in 03, which means you should get around 5100 marks in 05 ... for a comparison i get 9013 in 03 & 3930 in 05 with a 6600GT :)

this is the score "8476" I got with '03 with my clock speeds that are shown in the pics.

what must I do to get higher clock speeds??????

OK then, I am not sure how you will increase your clock speeds, I just play about with them & increase them VERY slowly. When I do benchmarking, I like to turn off EVERY unecessary prog.
Because I am not there it is really hard to give good advice.
You may just be stuck with the clocking that you have!
Mine maxxed out at 365 & 950 respectively. I am still pleased, esp as I have a 6800LE rivatuned to 16 pixel pipelines! Not bad for £100!

My second PC also has a 6800LE rivatuned to 16pp. Only managed 9800 with that one though!

Not sure what else to say, I am disappointed with the lack of progress with your problem. I thought that lots more members would have been able to help you out.

what temp is your card running at. My BFG 6800GT-OC runs a temp of about 64 deg. idle and about 84 deg under load. With no overclock i got a score of 10772 3D marks in 03. As soon as my NV silencer arrives and i can cool it down a little i will try an overclock.

My temp runs around 43c idle and 59c while running games for a while, so I doubt its a heat related issue.

I just found out that I had to lower my memory clock frequency to raise my core clock frequency, from there I just kept going up 5 MHz with my core clock and slowly raising my memory clock. Right now im at 405MHz with my core and 1.07 with my memory clock.

for a start i dont see why you really need to overclock one of the fastest graphics cards on the market but oh well. Are you using Rivatuner? and also on these reviews youve seen are you 100% that its the exact same card as theres more than 1 version of 6800gt on the market
