Were you ever successful in burning DVDs? Did this just happen?

Your DMA did not reset, notice your second log:

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2500JB-00GVA0 nvatabus Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
    CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVD SOHD-167T nvatabus Port 0 ID 2 DMA: Off
    CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S nvatabus Port 0 ID 3 DMA: Off
    Note this thread:

Did you follow the instructions in my previous reply on how to change the dma

If so, this time uninstall the primary and the secondary ide controller, and then go up the device manager tree to CD/DVD devices and uninstall your cd rom and Dvd.
Turn off your computer and let Windows XP reinstall your devices which hopefully should reset your dma.

Yes DMA needs to be on. Your firmware is also outdated. Yours is JS05 and latest is JS07. Look here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2026

Your media is not being recognized. What brand and media code are your discs?
