I need some help with a problem that I am having. My problem is that I have always used DVD-R to copy movies with. However I was advised lately to start using DVD+R. So I purchased a 50 pack Of +'s but when I attempt to use one to copy with my computer kinda says "Huh what is this? It will just keep putting up a popup telling me to put in another disc. I have bought two brands of DVD+R's and get the same results everytime. Why will it not record on DVD+R's? I have a Toshiba Laptop using Win XP. My software is ANYDVD & CloneDVD2,both have the latest updates as well as my writer which is a Sony Dual Drive Model no-DRX-710UL. I don't get it? Why does it not like the +'s? Is there somewhere I need to put in my software or writer that iit is ok to use these +'s? I thank you for any help you can give me. This is an excellent site, and you guys have always helped me with any problems I have had in the past.
picman47, That external burner (DRX-710UL) may simply need a firmware update, you can get it from the link I provided below, along with all the info you could possibly need on that burner, also take a look at the media compatibility guide to make sure you're using media that has been tested to work for that burner. here's the link to Sony's site for that drive; http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/drx710uldwn.htm Your firmware update is in the downloads section, look for the download reguarding this: [bold]Firmware Upgrade Version BYX5 Improvements: Writing performance and reliability improvements.[/bold] Cheers John
Hi John, I have already downloaded the upgrade that you gave me, unfortunatly with the same results. There is something I am not doing right yet, I believe because it is consistent on not allowing a copy on any +'s that I insert. So it is just a matter of finding out what I need to do. Or so I think lol. Thanks for the help
Did you look at the media compatibility guide provided by Sony for your drive, if not here's the link. Try and use what they suggest for that drive and see if it helps (it could be just the brand that you're using that's the problem). http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/710mediainfo_gb_all040820.html
Ok John I look at that, and I am not using the recommended DVd+r brand name that is on the list. Is that what it is? Can it be that simple?
