    Hi everyone,

As the title states, I am interested in buying a surround sound system. I know almost nothing about them and am hoping you all can help. Basically what I will use it for is PS3 connected via HDMI, and Xbox 360 through the component cables it came with. I will be connecting it to my Westinghouse 37' 1080p Monitor (Lvm-37w3). It has 1 hdmi(hdcp) port and 2 component ports. I'm not looking to invest too much money at the moment on a surround sound system as I spent quite a bit on a new tv and a PS3. I've heard of HTIB, and it sounds like a good option for me, as I want to have it up pretty soon.
Thank You in advance for any help,
    Burner413

WalMart has a Sony or Pioneer system, for around $400. Don't remember model numbers. Just check the box, for info on how many inputs it has. For an HTIB, I'd get one that has the separate receiver (not built in with DVD player). You've got dvd players already.

You can check local pawn shops, and find good deals too. Might be able to get bigger and better speakers, and receiver with enough inputs, that way. You can also check here, for a deal..... http://www.overstock.com/
    Good luck!

Thx for replying. I went to Circuit City today and was told that if I want to play my PS3 through HDMI, I have to buy a fiber optic cable. So I started looking under the specifications and cannot find fiber optic imput/output on any of them. Is that what I m looking for? ahhh... im sooo confused.

the HDMI cable handles BOTH audio and video so i don't see where you need a fiber optical cable . thats the point in having HDMI to handle it all

from what ive been told i need to connect my HDMI cable from my ps3 to my tv, then a fiber obtic cable from my ps3 to the reciever of the sound system. but i dont know it that is true or not. As for my xbox, do i plug the component cables into the reciever, and if so what do i run from the reciever to my tv?

i guess it depends on your setup.

if you have an HDMI input/output on your AV receiver run your PS3 HDMI cable to the AV receiver input first and the HDMI output from the AV receiver to the HDMI input of the TV.

if you don't have HDMI inputs/outputs on your AV receiver you will need a fiber optic cable to get the surround sound yes

So I should connect my ps3 to my tv through HDMI, then run a fiber optic (same thing as "Optical" on the specs list I assume) from the ps3 to the reciver? Do I need to run anything from the reciever to the tv?

you will just need audio from the PS3 to the recevier to get the surround sound . the HDMI cable will handle the video from the PS3 to the TV
