"I am not sure the exact cost of repair, as it depends on labor, etc., but
it is my recomendation that you just replace this recorder with another
one. The cost of repair can easily add up to more than a new recorder,
    even with simple problems."

Well, this was ILO's tech support response, so now I am shopping for a new recorder. The local Walmart does not carry the ILO or LiteOn brand anymore, so I am looking at other brands priced comparatively. I definately want a machine that is capable of disabling MacroVision, compatable with a variety of disc types, and plays JPEG or picture CDs, and also considering a dual set up DVD/VHS machine. Do all DVD recorders have MacroVision disabling capability? Any suggestions?

Why don't you open up your options by using a special microchipped scart lead like I do that cuts out the copy protection signal before it gets to the recorder.
That way you can choose more "qualatitive" attributes from your "Would like" list of a recorder.
    Ie:-
    Hard drive
    Multi format record /playback
    Digital tuner
    Digital audio outputs
and most importantly, Reliability and build quality.
