Hello, I am having a problem setting up my home wireless LAN. I cant seem to set up my internet connection for my LAN. Im am using a D-LINK DSL-300T ethernet modem which is then connected to my Buffalo Air station WYR-G54. For the connection between the modem and the router I have set the modem's DHCP on, so it assigns an IP to the routers wan port. I haven't changed the IP's as yet so my modem is set to 192.168.1.1 and the router will get assigned 192.168.1.2. Up to this point I have not attached the ADSL line to my modem as I wanted to be able to ping through to my modem first, which I can. I then connect the ADSL line to my modem. My problem is that as soon as I run the internet connection wizard it comes back saying that it is all configured but it is not. I can not get internet access at all, in fact I think I actually lose my connection to my modem. I also end up with a completely different IP address on my router WAN side. I have noticed that and this my first ever using a ethernet modem as my other one was USB so please excuse the virgin, that I do get an IP from my ISP which changes as I disconnect and then connect again. I did notice though that when i ran the internet wizard, the IP i got shown was something similar to the ones i had seen when i just connected through my modem. can anyone please help as i have no more ideas but dont want to give up. A step by step guide would be great, joking kindest regards
They easiest way for ADSL is to set up the modem to log you in. Then you wont have to make any settings on the router unless you have wireless on it. Most ADSL modems are Westel which will let you do this. Some older modems do not have this option. Once the modem is set up to log you in just makes sure the router is set to Dynamic IP (This is the default) If the modem does not have the ability to log you in then set up the router in PoPPE. There you will see a field for your ISP user name and password. That's it your done. Dint forget to hit save at the bottom of the page or it will not go into effect. Hope some of this helps for you. As far as ICW goes. Select other then next. Select the top one(default) then next next next till your done. -Del
hello, im still having a problem with it. as i said before i cant seem to connect still. i still seem to be getting the same problem. When it is just my computer through the modem, works fine. when im connected to my router to the modem but no phone line its fine, can ping through to my modem. modem DHCP on for LAN side (router), Router DHCP on for LAN side (comps). when i connect the phone line the ip address for the wan port on my router changes to what i think is an ip from my ISP, is this right? If this is right then, u no when you have to configure your modem or router u go to your web browser, put in the ip, click go. the ip you put in, is that the ip for that port? if so my modem port that connects to my router has an ip of 192.168.1.1 and when i connect to my isp i get an ip of 82.31.6.91 showing on my router home page as my wa ip. Also one more. do you have to run any connection wizards on your pc's to be able to connect to the net or is it just there to use? regards rhys
hello mr_del, i managed to run my internet connection wizard on my router and it came back saying that it connected successfully, so seeing this i was over the moon. thing is i still cant connect to the net. is there something i need to do to the connection between my pc's and router? also one more thing just to make sure its right, i set up my modem for a constant connection using PPPoA as told by tesco, which is all good. now on my router i have three options:- 1 Direct connection 2 PPPoE ( couldn't get this one to work on my modem??) 3 IP Unnumbered i have sent mind to direct connection. Does this sound right? or should i be putting my logon credentials on my router and change my modem config. modem configs are:- 1 PPPoA 2 PPPoE 3 Bridge 4 Static I hope i am nearly there and any more advice would be great cheers babyeuan
If you are not able to figure out how to do this in your modem then just do it in the router. Whichever you use PoPPE will be the correct setting. If you manage to get The modem to use this then the router should be set to Dynamic. If you decide to use PoPPE in the router then the modem should be bridge. Holding the reset button for 15 seconds on the modem will set it to bridge. -Del
