I have a problem. I need the subtitle to a show, that is only in a foreign language.
I need to translate a .srt file and be able to keep it as .srt or I need to be able to change the text (made by translating) into a .srt.
If I go on line and translate the .srt, I can only save it as a text. Then, I have no way to change the text to .srt. I tried going to "save as" and can not save as .srt. Subtitle workshop won't open a text (Says it is unsupported format), so I can't change to a .srt there.
    Can anyone help me?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you

I changed an English .srt to German using Google translate.
I had to replace the -> with --> and make sure it was saved with .srt instead of .txt extension;it worked ok.

But how did you save to .srt? I only seem to be able to save as text. I DID use Google to translate, but then couldn't save as .srt.
    Can you help?
    Thank you

After you copy the new text into Notepad and make the change, click 'File' > 'Save as' and give it a name with .srt as the extension.

I have tried that and when I go to Subtitle Workshop or try to use it with .avi on dvd player, it is not recognized as a .srt file.

Copy and paste some lines from the translated text file and the .srt file that you made from it.

I tried that, also. It worked 2/3 of way through, but when I got to end, again, it is not recognized.

If you want to zip/upload the original and translated files to a share site, I can look at them.

    Okay.....Where do I send it?
I have put the original and translated versions of part 1 into a zip file.
As you will see, when I try to open with subtitle workshop it says it is unable to load.
Even on my computer, when played with the avi, it isn't recognized.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thank you

    I can't see a problem.
I used VLC (Open Advanced), selected an avi with a running time longer than the subs.
Loaded your translated .srt file and scrubbed through the movie to many time points and waited for the correct sub to show.
Using VLC and Open Advanced, do the same;skip through the video and see at what point they stop showing.

I did what you said with the VLC. When I played the .avi with the .srt, I only saw the numbers on the screen: example:
    "3
    00:01:56,350 -> 00:01:59,547"

    I didn't see any words.

My computer, for some reason, is not showing the translated .srt file as legitimate.

Did you see words on your computer?

Thanks again for your help....if you know what is wrong or you can fix...I would appreciate.

I see the appropriate line at that time.
I can also play them OK Using MPC.
I'm at a loss to the reason for the no-show.
I suggest posting at the VideoHelp site - you can include a screen image of the problem which may help.
In the meantime I will have a think and see if I can add anything further.

BTW, the problem you describe is what you see if you open those English subtitles (they still have the -> arrow with the single dash (should be -->)

The picture you are showing me is for the Romanian version.
Mine is the English version. It is the .srt that is not recognized.
Did the English version also play okay?
    Thank you.

I assumed that it was the version you were trying to get to work.
Your English version has the wrong grammar.
    Should be :
Open the English .srt in Notepad;click 'Edit' > 'Replace'.

I fixed the -> to --> on the English version and it is now working.
I want to thank you for all your help.
    It is much appreciated.
Not everyone would spend so much time trying to help someone as stupid about these things as I am.
Again.....Thank you very much for your help!
