I have a cannon mini divd videocamera... I got a program w/ it called mydvd and i dont like it.... I want to be able to save my videos onto my computer and if thats not possible then at least be able to burn them as is onto a dvd. I dont understand how to do this so if anyone could help i would really appreciate it! Thankyou.
hi, lombardy. i also have had the same problem, recently i bought a sony mini dvd camcorder, and i didn't want to use the software it came with. just put your dvd in the drive and rip it to HD with dvddecrypter or you can use dvdfab.(i'm assuming you are able to play your camcorder dvd's on your PC.)if you can't then i have also had success just going ahead and using that software that came with my camcorder just to upload my video to the HD (my camcorder just has usb 2.0 hookup) and then using windows movie maker, adobe premiere, click 2 dvd etc.
If this Canon camcorder is like mine, it uses mini DV tapes and not discs. The file format will be .avi. Also you would connect to your PC with a firewire cable and not the USB cable. Windows Movie Maker is generally on all PCs with WinXP so you could open that and use it to do the capture. Click File > Capture Video. With WMM it's tough to get the video converted to DVD although the newest version actually does this if I'm not mistaken. A next step up is to use Nero Vision, which has the option "Capture Video to Hard Drive" on it's opening screen. If you are serious, Adobe Premiere Pro is about the best you can get for home use. Expensive, complex and resourse intensive but you can do some really cool things with it.
I'm not sure sure what format the files are. TJedwards- how did you use the dvd decrypter with your home movie, would it be the same way as any other movie? Because when i tried opening it up into other programs such as windows movie maker and adobe premiere it wouldn't read my dvd. Thanks for the help so far though!
@lombardy just fire up dvddecrypter, put in your dvd and rip your dvd with decrypter in file mode. this works well if you are just trying to put a few 1.4 discs onto a 4.7. you will not be able to use those other programs in this format without converting it again though. like i stated it does work well just to fill up a 4.7 rip to HDD with decrypter and reauthor with shrink and you can fit a few of the 1.4's on a 4.7 disc. if i have a 1.4 that i want to put some of those fancy titles and all that jazz on i'll upload through the usb cable and that way i can use the other programs .(adobe premiere, click 2 dvd, windows movie maker). my camcorder uploads through the usb as mpeg 1.
thankyou so much, i will have to try that out i hope it works for me! i really appreciate it, thanks.
