    hello its been a while,i recently changed operating systems on my pc.And in doing so lost my SMB connection. Ive looked and looked but cant figure it out.Obviously im running xbmc,im unsure of version, on a hard modded xbox. My setup was working for years(2),until i changed operating systems. I went from xp pro sp2 to xp black(about the same thing). I think i lost the path in which it was running but due to trial and error it maybe xbox. I can still FTP and run games,emulators without a problem. I think it is pc related but unsure. I turned off firewall, enabled shared folders, etc. Router is working cause it works on my xbox 360(much easier)All i am attempting to do is view movies and music from pc onto xbox. MY 360 does this but i am attemting to make it wife proof (she is used to this). Is chunkhead still around? anyway id appreciate any help in this matter. thanks in advance

    I would think that it would work since the 360 can see it all! Try this... Get your FTP Program up, and look in the folder where XBMC is located! open that, and open the folder 'User Data' (or something similar to that). There should be a file in there labeled 'sources'. It's an .xml file! What you will need to do, is FTP that to the Desktop, and open it with Notepad! You will need to look for something that looks like this:

    <bookmark>
    <name>Network My PC</name>
    <path>smb://ComputerName/MySharedDrives</path>
    </bookmark>

    So in the path for 'ComputerName' you will need to put the IP Address of the Computer. Then whatever folders you enabled sharing for (i.e. let's say I made my 'Videos' folder shareable it would look like smb://MYCOMPUTERIP/Videos/) type it in the path.

    Once you have done that, you can save the file, and FTP it back to your folder you got it from!

    Now, I haven't done it this way... I'm using the XBMC Build that was released 2008, so it's not one of the stable ones, but more features are in it! I would actually recommend getting it, because then you can set it all up on the xbox! You just search for the Computer on the Xbox, and it's so much easier!

    I'm sorry this is long, but I hope it helps you and the wife out!

    i hadnt thought of that. i can still ftp, and i realized that the path between cpu and xbox is screwed. I think its harder to fix a link than to install a new as ive done this twice already but never had this much trouble(thinking of reinstalling xbmc). maybe my brain shrinks with age. lol. anyway what version and all new features are out? i am running xbmc build 2.0. I have never had a problem, i thought they quit the project? i have also ran other versions but unsure which ones(been a while). i have two more xboxs to "specialize) so i guess its time to relearn. i thank you for the response and ill give it a shot if i mess it up i can always start over. thanks again

    This was one of the Stable Builds that I tried first on my xbox:

    T3CH XBMC 2006-11-12 2.0.1 FAT

    But then it wouldn't play my media correctly or anything! So I now have this one on my xbox:

    T3CH XBMC 2008-06-01 SVN rev13360

    It's worked really well! Sure it may not be a 'stable' build, but I haven't had any problems with it. And to setup SMB on this Build, you do it all from the xbox! The xbox will look for your computer, and you just set it all up that way. Here is the link to T3CH's website:
