Hi, I'm trying to combine a WAV file that was formerly part of a movie, back to the movie. I took out the WAV file using VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.3 This is its properties: Stream format: AC3 3/2.1 (5.1) 48000Hz Bitstream type: byte stream Frame size: 1792 Samples: 1536 Bitrate: 448kbps SPDIF stream type: 0x1 Frame interval: 1792 Actual bitrate: 448kbps AC3 speakers: 3/2.1 (5.1) sample rate: 48000Hz bitrate: 448kbps stream: 8 bit frame size: 1792 bytes nsamples: 1536 bsid: 8 clev: -3.0dB (0.7071) slev: -3.0dB (0.7071) dialnorm: -29dB bandwidth: 14kHz/20kHz What MediaInfo says about the WAV file is: General Complete name : C:\Users\Levi\Desktop\Castaway On The Moon.wav Format : Wave File size : 373 MiB Duration : 1h 56mn Overall bit rate : 448 Kbps Audio ID : 0 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : 2000 Duration : 1h 56mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 448 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Stream size : 373 MiB (100%) Now I am just trying to put it back in the movie but when I go to audio compression to choose 448kbps 48000Hz 3/2 channels 55KB/s, from the AC-3 ACM Codec, it says: Error initializing audio stream compression: The requested conversion is not possible. I tried other channels but none work except for 2/0 Stereo 48000Hz. I then tried to do the same thing using VirtualDub 1.9.8, and it says: Error initializing audio stream compression: The audio codec cannot compress the source audio to the desired format. Check that the sampling rate and number of channels in the source is compatible with the selected compressed audio format. I also tried taking out the WAV file in VD (No Compression [PCM]) and it comes out as 2/0 Stereo. What am I doing wrong? I tried it with 2/0 Stereo 48000Hz but the volume in the movie is low compared to the original. Are there other ways to choose the desired original audio compression? Or am I supposed to use the .ac3 file that I demuxed instead? When I try to, I get a VD error saying it's of an unknown or unsupported file type. Thanks in advance.
Save the original as ac3 not wav. Do this in virtualdubmod. The use something like Besweet to convert it to 2 channel wav. Use an audio editor to fix the volume, and write it out as WAV. In virtualdub 198, open the avi, and select audio full processing. Then audio/audio from another file (select your wav file) Audio/compression - select Lame ACM. set your bitrate and OK out. Set video/direct stream copy Save as avi.
Let me mention a few things. This movie was originally 2 parts (CD1 + CD2). So I appended them together. It plays fine on my computer. But on another computer and on the TV, there's this screeching sound/noise that occurs when originally CD1 ends (55:45), so at 55:45, that noise occurs and then from 55:46 and on, the sound seems to disappear or more like, becomes very low. So I tried to fix it on my computer, since I don't hear that sound, in VD 1.9.8 by saving the audio as WAV and combine it back together with the video like I originally posted, but it won't let me choose compressions other than 2/0 Stereo and save. So then, I tried VDM 1.5.10.3, by extracting the WAV (the one I wrote the properties of) but now that's when I just realized that in that WAV file and the demuxed .ac3 file from VDM 1.5.10.3, there's the screeching sound in the middle. I found out by uninstalling AC3Filter v1.63b. But I don't hear the screeching sound in the WAV from VD. Here's the MediaInfo on that one: General Complete name : C:\Users\Leviathan\Desktop\Castaway On The Moon.wav Format : Wave File size : 1.25 GiB Duration : 1h 56mn Overall bit rate : 1 536 Kbps Audio ID : 0 Format : PCM Codec ID : 1 Codec ID/Hint : Microsoft Duration : 1h 56mn Bit rate : 1 536 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 16 bits Stream size : 1.25 GiB (100%) So now I am thinking of using this WAV file instead. But is there some way to make it like how the original audio track was? 6 channels, 448kbps, etc. VD/M won't allow me to make it other than 2/0 Stereo.
Hi there! Well I'm having the same problem here. I converted an audio file to wav format and when i tried to converted to a mp3 cbr file to recompress it back to the video it showed teh same message. " Error initializing audio stream compression: the requested conversion is not possible." I used VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1, but i have already tried to do it in others version and got the same message. I have ac3, lame mp3 andn some otehrs codecs but at least for the time being it didn't work. gork
gork, SHould not hijack someone else's thread, make your own. Anyway, why did you convert the audio to WAV and then back to mp3? @talefing, What did you use to join CD1+CD2?Is it an AVI? Try Avidemux to do the joining and see if you still hear the annoying sound. You can use Audacity to convert the WAV to whatever you want. In fact, you can use Audacity to load about any VIDEO file and convert the audio to the format of your choosing.
I had assumed the WAV was extracted to increase the volume, but you know what they say about assume! As mentioned by cyprusrom, Avidemux may be the better tool. It can take the 6-channel wav, convert it to ac3, also normalize the audio AND compress the dynamic range. Give it a shot.
I (sort of) found a solution for my problem and I just thought I should update this thread incase anyone comes across a similar problem. Like I mentioned before, the movie was consisted of two parts (CD1 + CD2), I noticed that everytime I loaded each part in VirtualDub 1.9.8, I would get the error message: AVI: Truncated or invalid compressed audio format detected (18 bytes, should be 36). Attempting to fix. So if you attempt to append the 2 parts with whatever program, you'll find problems with the result video (screeching noise/sound when CD1 part ends if you use VD/M, {only if you don't have the latest AC3Filter, but it'll be problematic when you try to burn the vid or whatever to watch the video somewhere else like on your TV} and with AviDemux, you'll find that it skips 300-400 milliseconds when CD1 part ends). So what worked for me was AVI-Mux GUI 1.17.8.3. I'm not sure why I did it and still don't know how AVI-Mux GUI affected the 2 CD parts but not only it removed the Truncated audio format message but also the screeching noise/sound disappeared after I appended them. I just basically downloaded AVI-Mux GUI 1.17.8.3, didn't change any settings, dragged Part 1 and just clicked Start and then separately did so for Part 2 as well, and then I loaded the new Part 1 on VirtualDub 1.9.8 (error message disappeared) and I did the steps to append the 2 .avi files and the video came out perfectly fine lol I tried using AviDemux to append the 2 new parts but you hear a funny sound when CD1 part ends but it's tiny, I was able to detect it with Audacity.
