Hi-- OK--so far the help that I have been given has been great!! I thank everyone for all the advice. Has anyone had expereince with Imation Brand and Kypermedia Brand DVD-R blank media? Thank you again!!! Steve
I personally have not used either brand. However, I have noted a lot of guys/gals here saying both of those brands are really bad media. Someone will chime in soon as there are a lot of quite knowledgable people here. Hope this helps.
I normally use verbatium like alot of us do. I did however recently purchase a spindle of 100 imation for $24 and some change. I've gone through about 50-60 and have had absolutely no problems with this media. Hope this helps...............
Help...Help...Help..... I am at a loss.....I have done everything that everyone has says...updated the firmware, used brand name software..SONY...and still I am having the same problem......some of my DVD's are still not working.....some have worked and others will play for various amounts of time and then quit or not play at all... The only thing that I have not done is this booktyping thing and wish there was a step by step paper for dummies like me.....because I am not understadning how to do it with my SONY DVD Recorder...SONY DVD RW DW-U50A... Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks to all!! Steve
@ny716 Here is how to change the booktype using dvd decrypter: Bit setting in DVDdecrypter will change the format of your DVD+R media to DVD-ROM which will make it more playable in standalone DVD players. Follow the following images through the sequence. (Remember to have blank media in the drive) Click tools>drive>Change book type Or instead of the above you could do this: At the next window you select the drive tab that identifies your burner: Here you select the media type that you want to book type. Now you select the change that you want to make, in this case change to DVD-ROM Click on the change button and you will get the success screen! Click OK and you are good to go. Remember this process will [bold]NOT[/bold] work for DVD-R media. This setting should remain in effect until you shut down your computer. I also perform this process prior to burning a backup in CloneDVD2 and it works!
thanks 9mmruger1---but...I am using DVD Clone.....with ANY DVD....and the dvd's that I make..the players that I have can play both DVD- and DVD+ formats. If I remember reading..it said that if the stand alone players can read both formats...than that booktyping thing is not necessary.... In addition I use DVD- blank media....I have a ton of those..well about 500 blank ones... Thank you for the continued assistance. Steve
@ny716 FYI - when I want to use CloneDVD to do a back up I preset the booktype using DVDdecrypter and then close DVDdecrypter and open CloneDVD to do my burn. The burner reacts to the bitset change whether I am using DVDdecrypter or CloneDVD and booktypes my +R to DVD-ROM. I use this little trick all the time.
9mmruger1---I am using DVD- blank media...I do not use DVD+....I have about 500 DVD-R media...and the stand alone players are capable of playing both + and - formats.... I am at a loss as to why some play in one but not the other....baffling....and get this....I have two of the same brand of JVC stand alone DVD players...one plays them good...the other starte to play and then stops....ugh...lol Any suggestions?? Thanks!! Steve
Yeah, I understood that you have -R's. I was just letting you know that there is a way to make +R's booktype when using CloneDVD. Tricks of the trade. Not sure what to say about your other issue, except that after you have used up the -R stock that you have you can go to +R and booketype. That should resolve the playability issue. Cheers.
9mmruger1 how would you change the book booktype in clonedvd2? does this correct the issues with pixelization and freezing in dvd players. I am using TDK and sony disk.
Clone DVD2 does not offer the option to change booktype within its program, so you have to do it with another program first. I do it with DVDdecrypter or imgburn. Once you have changed the burner with these programs the burner does not care which program is doing the burning. Here is how: Bit setting in DVDdecrypter will change the format of your DVD+R media to DVD-ROM which will make it more playable in standalone DVD players. Follow the following images through the sequence. (Remember to have blank media in the drive) Click tools>drive>Change book type Or instead of the above you could do this: At the next window you select the drive tab that identifies your burner: Here you select the media type that you want to book type. Remember this will [bold]NOT[/bold] work for DVD-R media. This setting should remain in effect until you shut down your computer. I also perform this process prior to burning a backup in CloneDVD2 and it works! I hope this helps.
ive read this on another post. "I get far better burns buring x16 media at x16 or x12 than at x4. You should really burn at or near the speed rating of the disc." Would I have problems with pixilization and freezing even if i was buring at 1x?
There are many variables to this issue. Burner, media, speed, target size. The general rule is that you can burn 1/2 of the rated speed. There are others here that can answer this question better than I can. I generally burn at 4x but have done a couple at 6x with equally good results. I think that media is critical. Use the best for the best results. I think that a 1x burn on 16x rated media is not necessary. I would burn it at 4 or 6x. Get Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell.
Everyone has been so helpful and I turly appreciate it....I have another question and I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask it in...if not, please forgive me and point me inthe right direction... Can soem of you recommend a good external DVD burner? I purhcased a LG (Life's Good) but not sure if I should use that one or purchase one that many have had great success with...or...is the LG one good? The model number is GSA-5163D. It has Tri-DVD formats DVD+ and - RW and DVD-RAM as well as a IEEE1394 and it is USB 2.0..although the computer I have does nto have the 2.0 port.... Please advise... Thanks again!! Steve
ok everyone i am using clonedvd and i want to kno what does it mean to preserve menu's....ok you see i want only the MAIN MOVIE nothing more but when i do only the movie i still see the menu where is says play movie...what i want is i want the movie to start right away once i insert the dvd into my standalone player can anyone help me thank you....
DVDRipGuy, After you start up CloneDVD, Click top box, Copy DVD Titles, Pick correct DVD video file, Make sure the "Preserve Menu" box is unchecked, continue as you normally would from here. I use it this way and it will start the movie as soon as you put it in your player, just as you wanted.
