I wasn't sure which forum to post this in, so I posted here.

I'm trying to connect my desktop computer to my monitor and LCD tv at the same time using a VGA cable.

I don't mind if they both have to be displayed at the same time or if I would be able to switch between the two.

I was thinking I need a male VGA cable on one end to connect to my desktop and a Y split to 2 VGA connections (male) (1 to monitor, 1 to TV), but I can't find such a cable. Is it because what I'm trying to do impossible?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

They make just about any cable you can think of, such as the ones found here.

This cable may work, but the better option is to get a video card that supports two monitors.

Going this route will enable you to choose a different resolution for the monitor and TV, whereas with a splitter, you'll have the same resolution for both. Of course, you can go with a dual DVI video card as well and simply use an adapter. Such as the one found here.

The links to the cables provided were male to 2 females, but as mentioned before, I need male to 2 males (as my monitor and tv need male connections).

The video card would work, but an expensive route. I will look into it.

The last link, the VGA to DVI converter...I'm not sure how that would help. My monitor nor my computer take DVI.

nevermind, I think I understand why you sent me the VGA to DVI converter. You want me to get a video card with dual DVI outputs, but i would convert those DVI's to VGA's so they can go into my monitor and tv.

But why would I go that route? What advantage would I have in getting a DVI video card versus a VGA video card.

I still want to do one VGA cable with 1 male end on side and 2 male ends on the other side

lastly, what is the name of that video card you posted. I'm having trouble finding dual outputs for VGA's. Most video cards have DVI now.

The reason I mentioned the DVI video cards is because they're more common and they'll be more useful in the future if you replace your monitor or TV. As for the VGA male/female connections, you can simply purchase a gender changer. Here's an example.

If you're going to go this route, do some shopping. You can probably find one cheaper as I simply posted the first one I found on google.

As for the dual VGA video card, here's the link to the picture that I posted. Again, if you're going to go this route, do some shopping. Make sure you get a card that's compatible with your motherboard. For example, this card has a PCI interface. You may need something different, such as an AGP card for an older computer or a PCI express card for a newer computer.
