Need help with copying certian movies

I have been using dvd fab, fixvts, dvd shrink, and nero 9 to make backups of my dvd collection. The problem is that most of the time these programs work great but there are a few dvds that just wont copy. Some of them try and get about half way through, then fail. While other wont get ten seconds into it. The most recent was Surrogates with Bruce Willis. This happens with some new dvd's and with some old random dvd's. When a movies fails to copy and dvd fab aborts the operation, sometimes(not always) my dvd drive wont read a disc until I restart my computer... So, in short, is there anything I can do to copy these dvd's.
