i was once using dvd+r, now when i burn with them the computer said it was burned successfully. When i played it in the dvd player, ps2, it said that is was not compatible with the player or ps2, or either it would freeze and skip now. should i switch to dvd-r disc? i have tried all brands. I have tried sony, memorex, hp, phillips, and imation. Am i doing something wrong now, because in the beginning it played fine in the dvd player and ps2. could someone please help me.
tweetybyd I have an older PS2 that will play both - & + R. The only good media you've tried is Sony so I would stick with those or use Verbatim as ezrnow suggested. The other media you tried has been known to deteriorate and this would affect playback. You best bet would be to use +R if you can change the booktype to DVD - ROM with your drive.
The most common cause of freezing and pixelating is poor quality media. I agree with binkie, everything you've tried with exception to sony is garbage. Second most common cause is burning too fast. Keep the burn speed to 4x or under especially on lower quality media. Dvd+r booktyped dvd-rom is most compatable for stand-alone players followed by dvd-r then dvd+r. I've read dvd-r is most compatable for PS2's but dont know from experience as I don't own a PS2. Try some good qality media: (in order of preferance) verbatum datalifeplus, taiyo yuden, maxell, fuji, sony, ricohjpn, or branded ritek ridata. Stay away from memorex, no name brands, and retail store branded media. Mort
mort is ON A ROLL~ nicely stated...i too actually got on the booktype dvd+r to dvd-rom bandwagon a few months ago due to mort's recommendation, since then, everything i own will playback my backups~ this is a very good suggestion...as with media, i agree with what mort stated, my personal preference is in a slightly different order than his, but, that is negligible at best~ good luck tweetybyd~ if you were once using dvd+r, i suggest the booktype method that mort suggested, and try to find those SONY dvd+r that are MADE IN JAPAN...those are Taiyo Yudens...which rank #1 on my list of recommended media...the made in taiwans are decent media too, but, if it's at all possible, get the MADE IN JAPAN SONYs 8x dvd+r, great media and i have had NO problems in playback in many different dvd players~
Hi triple 6, Thanks for the kind words. Out of curiosity, what is your order of preference for media other than TY before verbatum? I consider them about even but put the verbs first only because I've had more experience with them. I would like to know how you would rank the list of recommended media I provided, your media excellency :~) Ya know its all in fun but I would like your opinion.
i dont have a liteon dvd burner. i have hp what booktype can i download to set the booktype. and how is it done
@tweetybyd, Good medias are: FUJI (TY), Verbatim, MAXELL, Sony and TDK. Make sure it says; "made in Japan or Singapore" when you purchased them. Or else you might get another coaster as well.
tweetybyd, Depending on the model of hp dvdrw you have it is probably either a rebadged lite-on or benq. What model do you have?
@alkohol - re Verbatim - all their current stuff is coming out of Taiwan. Older stock were Singapore and India (however i had nor problems with loads of the last two)
I'm not sure about the 640i but the 630i is a rebadged benq and the 530i is a rebadged lite-on. You could try burning an iso with dvdd useing it's booktype setting and select benq as your burner. Or same with nero's booktype utility. To find out for sure what oem brand your drive is you can ask here. http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61
Since a couple of you guys has recommended Verbatim, I have a question about them. I have used Verbatim DataLifePlus in the past and was happy with them -- no problems. Micro Center had Verbatim DVD-R 8X 50-pack on sale this week for $19.98 and I bought a couple of packs but haven't opened them yet. Is there much difference between these and the DataLifePlus? BTW, these are made in Tawain. Think Creaky mentioned this previously in this thread. Anyone ever used them or should I return them? Thanks. Tsquare43
@mort sorry it took so long, i must have missed this one~: my order of preference based on YOUR list above: Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim datalifeplus, Fuji=TY (MIJ), Sony=TY (MIJ),Ritek Ridata G05 flavor, then Maxell/Ricohjpn~ then regardless of the ALL the other ones..i just won't even consider the memorex/princo/gq/compusa/etc. brands..those are utter crap, CMC MAG leading the bunch~ also, with the above list, i ONLY use dvd+r format, with the only exception being the Riteks, which are dvd-r format for the G05s~ some people are very fond of the Maxells, but, i have had BETTER success w/ my Riteks over the Maxells, but, that's just from PERSONAL experience once again~
@k666 About time, I thought you where just avoiding me as usual (only kiddng);~)Personally I've had better luck with the branded ritek ridata dvd+r's (ritek R03 and ricohjpn) than I have with the dvd-r's (G04 and G05).
