    Hi,

I recently bought a Samsung 52" LE52A656 and have an Xbox 360 Premium with HDMI. I also have a Sky + box for digital TV.

Now, I want to buy a home cinema system that will connect to both my Sky + and Xbox 360 so that I can hear the sounds through the 5.1 speakers on the home cinema.

I have looked at the Sony DAVDZ531W Home cinema system and it has one optical input. My TV has one optical output. If I were to connect the Xbox 360 through component to the TV and the Sky + box through scart, can I use an optical cable to connect the TV and Home Cinema so that all sound played through the Xbox and Sky+ comes out the home cinema speakers?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Well i'm probably not much use as i'm in a similar position as yourself. I am looking for a home cinema system to go with my ps3. The one I am keen on at the moment is the samsung HT-TZ315R. The reason i'm thinking samsung as it will connect up to my samsung tv using the easynet function and hence only one remote to use. I have been reading around and for the money it doesnt sound like a bad system. Make sure though that whatever you buy it does have the optical as some dont. This one also has bluetooth which sounds a bit gimiky but i'm sure i will use it. Some threads I have read have stated not to use the optical into the tv and have it straight from the ps3 for better sound but i guess that would be just playing about with it for what suits you. Anyway I think thats what i'm getting although the missis wont let me until we return on holiday :).

Yes I too was looking at the HTTZ315 as it also goes well with my Samsung TV, however it doesn't pack as much "punch" as the Sony home cinema with the bass being meatier on the latter.

The HTTZ315 does have more features such as the bluetooth and Dolby Prologic II. I am actually going to purchase this home cinema system as I realised that I can infact connect everything to my TV then use an optical cable and connect to the home cinema.

I have read many threads on the Samsung home cinema system and overall it is a very good system and has excellent sound and power (1000 watts!) and yes I also saw the bluetooth function and I will be sure to test this out.

Edit: Before I go rushing and buying a system, can you just confirm that the Samsung HT-TZ315 has an optical input because I did read somewhere that it does but just want to be 200% sure.

    Thanks

One thing is what is this anynet function you speak of? I have a Samsung TV and will purhcase the Samsung home cinema so how do I set up the anynet? Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, but that system seems pretty pricey to me. I don't mind an average system as long as it can handle what I want it to do.

One more question is: are there different types of optical cables, or can I purchase any and connect my TV to the Home Cinema?

    Thanks

Right, I know about the different quality of optic cables but are there different cables with different ends/heads? I need to know which would fit with my TV and Home Cinema.

Yes the samsung does have an optical although its not clear and it took myself some time to find out. The optical leads I am lead to believe should be the same either side and I think you can also get splitters for it so you can stick it straight into your sky and xbox (if it has one). I guess its not going to be the best sound around but £200 it seems a good system. I'm not sure how the easynet function works but am also lead to believe that it just plugs in and its easy to set as you do it through your TV menu.

Well I've ordered the system now and I went down to my local Comet store to test out the system and I have to say, it isn't bad! It has great sound quality and looks superb - what more can you ask for?

It does have optical input as I looked around the back of the system and I have ordered standard optical cables - if worst comes to worst I may have to buy the adapter to allow the cable to work with minioptical. (thats if my TV has minioptical as I haven't even opened the packaging of that yet!)

OMG! I ordered from Amazon - the price is fantastic! £210 isn't bad whereas my local Comet store is selling for £279.

BTW: ofcourse your wife will find out, but to help take her mind off it, take her on a shopping spree, then when the credit card bills come back, she won't notice your small expenditure :)

Right, I got it today, set it up to my old TV through scart and played a CD and for some reason sound only comes from the front two speakers. In the manual it says you need a 5.1 Channel CD to use all speakers but then what about pro logic II? Doesn't that create 5 channels when there aren't any?

I really need help setting it up, I can't get the sound to play through the rest of the speakers or subwoofer!

hhmm i'm not sure i'm afraid. I'm curious to know why you havn't set it up with your new TV as that may help also. Have you tried it with a dvd as I guess they are usually 5.1 although I would check the box of dvd to check that it is in 5.1. I dont really know about pro logic II but maybe start a new thread asking for help on that matter. Maybe try it with your xbox also because i'm sure they are in surround. Might be a daft question but i'm presuming you have wired up the other speakers. I only say that because there is an option for them to be wireless but you need to buy another thing for £80 to do that and have read all the wires are hard to find as they are stuck to the packaging.

Well I haven't yet connected to my new TV as I don't have the cables and haven't had my TV mounted on the wall and is still in the box.

I was playing a DVD and sound comes out through the speakers but not the subwoofer. I haven't got a clue as to why it isn't working properly, I will need to wait till I get an optical cable.

    Thanks for the input.

EDIT: I fixed the problem, I had wired the subwoofer cable incorrectly. (Doh!) I took the cables out and put them in properly and it was blowing out excellent sound from an R. Kelly CD. This is a great system and I haven't yet connected any digital inputs!

Damn! This system is great, I was playing at half volume and the sound clarity and bass is excellent. I even tried the gimmicks (USB/Bluetooth) and they work perfectly! I was able to play music from my USB drive and my mobile phone. The only problem is you need to make sure the format of the USB drive is FAT 16/32 because NTFS doesn't work.

Nogadoo, when you get one, let me know if you need assistance in setting it up. - Assembling the stands was real problematic for me ;)

PM me if you need any help with assembling the stands/wiring/setting up - I made one mistake whilst assembling the stands, I forgot to wire the speakers! I had to disassemble the stands and then wire the speakers and then reassemble. Oh well, it was worth it in the end. I was just listening to some dance/club tracks and I love how the house shakes when the subwoofer blows.

I think I am going to leave it alone now until it is connected to my TV, I don't want to damage the speaker system straight away :D

By the way, thanks for telling me there was a price reduction on the system, Amazon has a policy to refund you the money if the price has changed within 30 days of receiving the system. I got £5 back hehe. :)
