Hi, I have a Hp xw 4400 workstation. I have two 1gb sticks in there. the sticks are HYMP512U72cp8-Y5 1gb ECC Dimm DDR2 18x(64Mx8) PC2 5300U DDR2-333 5.0-5-5-15 3-20-5-3 Like I said I have two in there. When I right click my computer and click properties it shows I have 2 gb of ram. I have tried installing two kingston sticks today and then two pny sticks, all 1gb. I am just trying to add two more 1gb sticks. the pny sticks are PNY 1GB DDR2 PC@-5300 Optima Memory. I get 5 red beeps when I boot after installing. So I have them out and everything is fine. I installed SISoftware tool to give me the readout and it shows the banks like this Bank 0,1,4,5 as 512MB ECC DDR2 5-5-15 1T I am confused. Is the memory just incompatible or is there another issue. here was the reading. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a46/Theebs/?action=view¤t=memorywebcopy-1.jpg
I am not sure. I am not as stupid as I seem i promise. I am using windows xp pro sp2. Where can I check if it is 32 or 64 I think it is 32. My internal data cache shows this 2x 32kb, Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8 way, 64 Byte line size
We'll assume its 32bit, you'd know if you were running 64... The big and most obvious problem here is that any 32bit Operating System WILL NOT recognize all 4 gigs of ram, its a limitation factor. You'd be able to install 3gb but that's the limit. That's probably your issue...
Wouldnt it still boot up? I understand it is not going to recognize more than 3 gb, but it should still boot up. I am confused. I dont know why these companies make the information on memory so hard to follow. I am unsure if my issue is the memory in there is non ecc and the pny I bought is ecc. Every salesman assures me it will work and no one has been right yet! My other question is, do I need to update the bios before adding two more sticks? this sucks. i am in the middle of a project and just wanted to install some more memory and I have wasted the whole day!!!! any and all help is appreciated. I am pretty sure it is 32 bit... xw4400X/XH2.13/ F160/2.0/FX56/v/p RB283UA#ABA OS Genuine Windows XP Professional 32-bit Base unit HP xw4400 Workstation base unit Localization kit HP xw4400 Workstation localization kits Processor 1 Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13 2MB/1066 CPU Processor 2 none
It should still boot... It could be that your Mother Board won't support that much RAM... Have you tried installing just the PNY? See if it will boot that way (assuming the Kingston is the RAM you already had)...
The board can handle up to 8gb in the 4 slots. This is what is so frustrating. Memory Intel 975X Express chipset PC2-5300E DDR2-667 or PC2-5300U DDR2-667DIMMS Only unbuffered DDR2 DIMMs (ECC unbuffered or non-ECC) are supported and must be either x8 or x16 width. Memory upgrades are accomplished by adding DIMMs of the same or varied sizes. The Intel 955X chipset supports both PC2-5300 DDR2-667 non-ECC and ECC unbuffered memory. For best performance the total amount and type of memory loaded into Channel A and Channel B should be the same. If it is not, your computer will see all the RAM installed but will run the memory controller at a lower performance mode. Although not required, for best performance add the memory in pairs rather than as a single DIMM (two 512 MB DIMMs will have better performance than a single 1 GB DIMM). Also, add the memory into both channels (e.g. one in socket 1 and one in socket 3) to take advantage of dual channel performance. If you have unused slots within a channel, make them socket 2 and socket 4. This provides the best margin for the memory bus. If you are only using 1 DIMM, install it in socket 1. MAXIMUM MEMORY Supports up to 8 GB DDR2-667 ECC Unbuffered or 2 GB DDR2-667 non-ECC SDRAM POSSIBLE MEMORY CONFIGURATIONS Not all memory configurations possible are represented below. DIMM Size Slot 1 2 3 4 256 MB (single channel performance configuration) 256 MB 512 MB 256 MB 256 MB 1 GB 512 MB 512 MB 1.5 GB 256 MB 512 MB 256 MB 512 MB 2 GB 1 GB 1 GB 2 GB 512 MB 512 MB 512 MB 512 MB 4 GB 1 GB 1GB 1 GB 1GB 4 GB 2 GB 2 GB 6 GB 1 GB 2 GB 1 GB 2 GB 8 GB 2 GB 2 GB 2 GB 2 GB
You sure your matching it right in the slots? Otherwise I'm not sure... I'd say just keep running with the 2gb, which should be enough for the time being anyways... I'd say try exchanging the PNY for a new set and see if that helps...
thanks man. I am doing some compositing with hd and sd video and need more ram. So it isnt cutting it right now. I have it in slots 2 and 4, the only available ones.
okay so in slost 1 and 3 is the 1gig kinston sticks and in slots 2 and 4 the pny is installed? I'm sorry I can't be more help, its alot easier to do this when I'm actually at the machine...
no the original memory is in slot 1 and 3 and the pny is in 2 and 4. I took the kingston back to the store for a refund.
Lemme get this right, it had 1gb then you went and bought a kingston 1gb set and then a pny 1gb set??? Just out of curiosity...
No I have two 1gb sticks in there in slots 1 and 3. 2gb total of ram. I am trying to add two more 1gb sticks into slots 2 and 4. that is when I get the boot problems and the 5 beeps.
I meant to say: Lemme get this right, it had 2gb then you went and bought a kingston 2gb set and then a pny 2gb set??? Just out of curiosity... Sorry for the typo... I just looked it up and 5 beeps is usually a processor error... Which is weird because your not doing anything with the processor... Right now I think you may be stuck with just 2 gig until you can buy 4 gig of all the same exact ram, as that may resolve the issue.
I might just need the exact same ones to get 4 to run together. In my hp workstation manual it says 5 beeps is a memory error. I just installed the two new pny modules by themselves in 1 and 3 and it worked perfectly. So it must be something with the 4 together. uggh. now i have to return these also.
so you have the orginal sticks and the pny still? just go buy another couple pny sticks exactly the same!!! Hopefully it works.
