Hi all... first time post, long time user of backups of DVD's... Anyway, been trying to make a backup of [bold]"Are We There Yet"[/bold] Google searched for solutiuons for the last week, tried everything I could find... no go.... exp. user of Shrink and Decryptor (sad news on the end of Decryptor) I've tried using Decryptor with DVD43 and ANYDVD, hangs at the end of the same file all the time... Shrink itself, hangs at analysing right after the menus. I have current versions of all above mentioned programs. DVD43 gives me the green smile, yet Decryptor hangs on the same file, doing a mode > file. Is there any chance of getting a backup of this movie ? Any help from the experts out here is GREATLY APPRECIATED ! Big D is Me !
If you have the latest version of Decrypter (V3.5.4) you should be able to rip this puppy with DVD Decryptor alone. First close DVD43 and ANYDVD. (Many believe Decrypter doesn't run smoothly with these programs running in background.) Open up Decryptor in ISO Read mode. AFter Decrypter creates the ISO File open DVD Shrink then "Open Image" and compress file. Then open up Decrypter in ISO Write mode and burn this puppy. If you get error messages, then post so we can see what happened. This method worked for me; I am sure others willl chime in with the way they ripped it... If you do have bad press as Flip suggests, then exchange disk...
I will try DVDD as stated, with no other programs running... for the record here is what I get with ANYDVD running: I 20:39:20 Decrypting VTS_03_1.VOB... (LBA: 1061887 - 1586173) - KEY: CD 7E 37 B9 91 that is the file it ALWAYS hangs on... and the error: W 20:51:12 Failed to read Sector 1582556 - Unrecovered Read Error yet the movie play fine... I will try DVDD by iteself... and if no luck, I will try a new disc of the movie, possible my source has all bad presses ? and yes, my vers. of dvdd is 3.5.4 I will also try the ISO read mode... I'll post my results Big D
BTW: Be sure DVD Decrypter setting are set as prescribed by Scuba Pete in his 'hard to rip dvd' guide. See here: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide9.html
BigDIsMe, flip218 had it correct as it is a bad press. A bad press will play on the DVD Player but a computer is less forgiving and reports all errors. Suggest you take it back and exchange it for another .
All- Thanks for the responses... so far it looks like the cliche' of you learn something new everyday goes in this post... I followed your tips... DVDD with no other decoder running (ANYDVD or DVD43) Followed Scuba's tuning section (BTW Fantastic site Scuba !) Cleaned the DVD with Isopropyl as suggested, even thought it appeared clean... And I am no further than I have been before with the ISO Read... 61% currently.. so was it one of these three things ? or a combination of all... seems odd though, several people had complaints in the forums of having problems with this same movie... marginal presses ? really has nothing to do with any new protection scheme, so it seems ? Is that why DVDShrink by itself wouldn't work ? I appreciated the help... great forum at afterdawn ! If you see no more post to this thread, assume the above worked, as it appears to be. Big D
I have just recently backed up are we there yet with absolutely no prob. using only dvdd& dvds. but it sounds like the problems that many have had including me with the movie spanglish. I posted and was told to take it back from whence it came. I ran it back down 2 the [bold]block[/bold] and they were happy to do a swap.so this is my suggestion 2 you. the next week the forum blew up with spanglish post so if more info is needed you might read them.
Hey BigD: It was the new protection scheme that you had to get around. Did you notice as Decrypter was working (if you had the view log on) that it was inserting "dummy" sectors as it was writing. The newer Columbia/Tri-Star/Sony movies have a newer protection scheme that basically only DVD Decrypter or AnyDVD can break. Since AnyDVD costs $39; i generally recommend latest version of Decrypter since it is free. Happy burning
In this order, the day it came out...... Anydvd in the background, DvDShrink-ReAuthor(Movie Only) DvDDecypter to burn baby burn.............. if you have AnyDvD you should not have to rip to HD first......... good day........ freedom........
I have had the same problem with trying to copy certain movies (Hitch, Spanglish, Grudge) I encounter a "black hole" in the begining of the movie. I can skip past it (about 1 minute) and the begining of the movie will start. The "1 minute black hole" lags and seems to almost error out. It's also impossible to analyse the disc and it's impossible to copy the DvD. If you try, you can usualy get to about 13% (the menues) but as soon as it hits the main movie, it freezes then errors out. No clue for solutions, and i'll let you know if i find anything. =^)
DURRRRR!!!!! Come to find out, they are bad secters on the disc make on purpose, and dvd decrypter alows you to "skip" the bad secter, wich skips the "black hole". I'm so used to "skipping" being bad, talk about over thinking stuff!
rip just the movie with DDVD. shrink with DVD Shrink and burn with DDVD or Nero. The error is Sony copy protection... or a bad disc...very common problem. Try to rip another disc of AWTY,I had got three bad disc once.
