ok i got 2 computers and a new motorolla dsl modem. the old modem quit working and now i cant get online with either computer with the router which is a linksys wireless g hooked up. 1 comp is connected with the ethernet cable, the other computer is wireless. it all worked fine with the old modem until it went bad it was a siemens speedstream 4100.

all the lights on the modem and router are all flashing, blinking and or just on. like everything is normal and how it should be, but neither computer can go online. right now i got my 1 computer hooked directly to the modem with the ethernet cable....

sounds like a possible IP conflict between the modem and router, change the IP on the linksys to 192.168.3.1 and see if that helps, or do ipconfig like ddp said and post up what the default gateway is when connected directly to the modem

connect a pc 1 at the time to the modem & do an ipconfig/release. connect router between modem & pc's then do an ipconfig/renew. disconnect the phone line & power to modem when setting up router.

192.168.1.1, is the default gateway for most linksys routers, you need to see what the default gateway is when you connect directly to the modem, connect your PC directly to the modem do ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew. Also you may want to set your router to DHCP/dynamic, your old modem may have been a bridged modem so your router may be set for PPPoe

I had this problem last week after a Windows Update. My problem was that the firewall I'm using had an issue with that last update. (ZONEALARM) I had to update it for my laptop could get online. If you are using ZoneAlarm get the latest program update .

KB951748 is the one that conflicts with zone alarm, but if that was the case he wouldn't be able to get online when connected straight to the modem

Yeah lots of people had the problem however even disabled I still couldn't get on the internet I had to uninstall ZoneAlarm before I could get on the net. Not sure why that was but that's how it went. Just thought I would suggest that in case he hadn't done that. I did not uninstall the windows update just installed the updated ZoneAlarm. Now it all works again. Hope the problem gets resolved.

well i dont have zone alarm or ever downloaded it. whenever it tries to connect an im service online like yahoo or msn it says to check firewall setting which is disabled anyways. i've tried everything even setting up new network connections... nothing i do gets it online when the router is hooked up...

don't you mean new modem not new router? can you try the router on a friend's computer to see if can get on line or not? week last wednesday i went to a new customer who couldn't get on line. seems she left the computer on & went into town for a few hours & we had a brief blackout from a thunderstorm that i did not cause. went there on wednesday & after playing around for a half hour found that the router tho powered & lite up showed disconnected in the taskbar had crapped out. can get on the net directly thru the modem but not thru the router even when changed ethernet cables. they have to buy a new router because of that.
