First, I am new here, sorry if this message is posting in the wrong subject!!! Please don't chew my head off :D

2nd- I don't know much about computers, i am very much a beginner so I appologize for any stupid questions and for being so hard to follow!!!

What I want to do: I have downloaded several clips/videos etc from the internet of a band that I like. I would like to put all of the clips that I have on my computer, onto a dvd to watch it in my home dvd player.

I have been using Nero, and I really like it. But when I am buring it to the dvd, i get a message that says, "your compilation can not be written on this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of the correct type or modify the settings of your computer to make them compatible with the current disc. you will not need to transcode again unless you make changes....."

I have tried DVD+R and DVD-R, and neither of them work.

I don't know how buring video to cd-r works, but i have messed with that a bit too, and i haven't gotten it to work either.

I have tried and tried and wasted 100 dvd+r and dvd-r.

I am clearly doing something wrong, but I dont' know what.

Can anyone help me? IF so, please explain to me in the simplest terms. i do not know computer lingo. I tried reading some info from other help site, but everything was way over my head.

I thought it maybe helpful to walk you though my process, and you can tell me what i am doing wrong

    1. I go to Nero Vision Express 2

    2. Click on "Make a dvd" then choose "DVD-Video" as opposed to "DVD-video-(+VR) (is this right so far?)

    3. Then it brings me to a screen that says "content". Here I use the "add video files" and find the clips that i want, and add them.

(by the way, i don't understand what "chapters" are, so if you could, please explain that to me too)

    4. when i am done with that, I click on the "next" button

    5. that brings me to "create menu". here, i can set my background, layout, button style, music to play, and I click on menu pics to find what part of the video i want it to show in the menu boxes etc. I think I understand all of this part. when finished, i click the "next" button.

    6. then it brings me to the preview screen. Here i can preview everything. Then I click on "next"

    7. That brings me to the "burn options" screen. Here is where i think i am having the problems. I am not sure which options/settings to choose.

This is what is says for my burn summary (don't know if you will need to know this)

    Current Video Options:
    aspect ration: Automatic
    Video mode: NTSC
    Quality: Automatic

Your project contains 1 title and 1 menu (just keeping it simple til I get this figured out)

    Number of titles: 1
    1. chris daughtry- ford commercial- camp fire (Video Title, 0h 00m 46s)
    Video mode: NTSC
    Aspect ratio: 16:9
    Quality: Standard play (5073 kbps)
    Resolution: 704 x 480 (D1)

    Number of menus: 1
    - Menu for chris daughtry- ford commercial- camp fire (1 page)

    Used disc space: 0.04GB

    8. For the Burn option, i have been choosing: Burn to :AOpen (rather than the other option, burn to: image recorder)

For recording settings: I have speed as "max" and the box checked next to "write"

At the bottom is says, "Current Destination: Burn to AOPEN DUW1608/ARR"

    9. then i make sure there is a blank dvd-r in, and i click on "burn"

it will say "creating directories and creating menus and transcoding bla bla bla, but then awhile into the process, a message pops up and says, "insert an empty disc to write to.... Note: you will not need to transcode angain if you cancle the recording now, unless you change the project data afterwards"

Please help me. I have wasted a lot of time and disc and i have gotten no where. I don't know what other info you may need to help me. If you anything else, please let me know and i will do my best to answer you. Please help me if you can!!

    Thanks so much!

    Couple of questions.

    1. What brand of Media are you using? Please don't say M and M's. (Memorex and Maxell). They are horrible. Sony, Verbatim DataLife, and Taiyo Yuden are your best bet.

    2. Why are you burning at "Max speed?" Begging for coasters. Your drive is capable of burning at 16x! Try it at 4x and see what happens.

    3. Do you have a Nero log? That would help bunches.

first, thanks so much for trying to help me. You have your work cut out for you. LOL!!! yeah, i am using Memorex and Maxell (i don't know what is good and what is not, and i had my sister pick them up for me, and she doesn't know either) Do you think this may be the problem??? should i try the others you mentioned?

I don't know why i am buring at max, that is just what it was already set to and again, i don't know anything so i didn't know what to select.

don't know what nero log is. can you help me with that one?

Definetley try a different brand Media. M&M's are good candy, not DVD's. LOL!

You should try burning at 4x. Slower burn = less chance for errors.

When your project fails, does it ask you if you would like to save the Nero Log? It should. It will save it as a text file (.txt) were ever you tell it to.

    @mb2wenty

Invest in a small stack of RW discs and then you can use them over and over until you get the hang of this. You won't be making +-R coasters.

Stay away from any media that is made by CMC Mag, it's crap media and WILL cause problems.

    Try updating your firmware.

The version you should install is A110.

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=4

    Look for your model #.

NOTE* Be careful to read the instructions carefully, as a bad firmware flash can FRY your DVD-RW drive [bold]PERMENATLEY![/bold]

That being said, it is your best bet.

A Nero log will give the results of your burn and from it we can pick up on any errors and in most cases suggest a solution.

Error logs can be found here
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt

I would NOT touch the firmware issue yet as I feel it is a[bold] BAD MEDIA[/bold] choice, post your LAST log and we'll take a look.

I really dont know with this poster, he's posted in several forums, some have been closed so I would like to see a LOG. He states he's NOT really clued up on things so I dont want him to fry things with firmware.

hello everyone :D thank you all for the help. i will try to take you advice. I am a 25 yr old female by the way ;) not a "him". LOL I don't know what i am doing, so i don't feel comfortable with that firmware thing. I would surely mess something up. LOL. here is a pic of me by the way, not that it matters. hope it isn't against the rules to post links here : [IMG] if that don't work, try http://photobucket.com/albums/y48/mb2wenty/?action=view&current=meandkayleigh.jpg or here is an older one: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/mb2wenty/meandrob.jpg

anyway.... i am going to try to figure out how to get that log. i do remember a long time ago, it poping up with the message about saving the log, but recently, i have not had the option to save a log or anything like that.

i think i will try different media and also so RW so i don't waste so many disc. thanks a lot and if you have any more tips for me, please let me know.

ok, i finally found the log thing, but the files that it has listed, are not the ones that i have been tring to do lately, so they have to be old. are the most recent errors at the top of the list?

That is not the right log. You are correct. It is a Nero Express Log.

The serial # you edit is normally right at the top. It normally starts with 1A, or 5C, or something like that.

Hi Mb2wenty...I've been reading your first posting and I found that we have similar problem. I'm using AOPEN drive too but my model is AOPEN DUW1616/ARR.

I bought some DVDs earlier and was burning my favourite shows without a problem and suddenly I found I couldn't burn anymore, even though I was using the same DVD as earlier. I read a few forums and decided to upgrade my firmware. After doing that, I still cannot burn without an error message.

My problem is the DVD will be ejected even before the burning process is finish and the error message will appear. I have enclosed my error log.

Pleasssssse help me. I am using Vision media for DVD.

The firmware I downloaded is version R1.03. Its suppose to do the following :

1)modify write strategy for TY DVD-R Disc
2)debug for writing audio CD error
    3)adding support list for F.T.I DVD+R (16x disc, write in 12x)
    4)adding support list for F.T.I DVD-R (16x disc, write in 8x)

    My error log:
