    Hi Guys

I have a 160gb hard drive and I created 2 patitions, I installed windows xp on the first partition. When windows finished installed, I only see one drive in my computer as 80gb. Did I do something wrong? Please help!

Ms partitioning stuff is iffy as best I would suggjest useign a freeware/shareware program.

Partition magic is one of the best paid programs yet and you an find older version 8 and below on the torents :3

Word of warning if you use to use the 2nd part heavily I wuld make sure you have fans on it since splitting a HD into 2 then using both normally is like halving its life span well maybe reducing it by 30ish present,I stopped partitioning my drives and they have started to last long and have less issues.

Did you creatye 2 partitions ? or one partition of a nice size and left the other one
try clicking on start . right click my computer . click manage. select disk management . and see what it says in there
you can use this to create a logical drive if you omitted to do it when you loaded windows

I created 2 partitions but didn't format the 2nd one. Can I format it in windows?

Does partitioning your hard drive really decrease the life span?

I over worry, also the 4ish years I had HDs and used partiions alot on maxtor and samsung drives they just tend not to long as in less than 2 years, and last year mid summer I had to return a drive to samsung it was quite annoying I figured its the OS being on one and constant downloading being on the other, your results may vary but hope and pray they don't fail out of the warrenty *L*.

I forget XP has a tool

    Control panel/Admin tools/computer management/disk management

It should list them all there and you can format the "hidden" partition there,if not you will need a 3rd part program to do it.

I guess a bad drive will go in a year or less regardless of partitioning or not...still I worry and my bloody fingers can account for it :p
