Hey all. I bought my uncle's Toshiba laptop recently and he has no idea where the boot disk is or where the Windows XP Home disk went. I really want to reformat the laptop. I have scanned it for viruses and spyware cause it is getting quite slow and everything was fine. Now can i buy the Windows XP Home program from lets say best buy, install it, then everything will be like brand new?

Also is a boot disk the same as windows xp home disk?

First off, does the laptop have a COA on the bottom? (COA=Certificat of Authenticity). The COA should have our XP Home install key. If it does, all you need to do is get the XP home media, as you dont have to purchase another license since the laptop already has one. You should be able to contact Tochiba to get the right disks. Second, yes the CD is probably considered the boot disk in your case. The laptop should be able to boot from a retail/OEM XP home cd and begin the install.
