I installed a gov't version of symantec on my home computer and since then I was unable to access the internet. An error message on my local area connection status states that the problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. I contacted the ISP and they couldn't provide assistance and even recommneded re-installing Windows XP. Another friend suggested it was a firewall issue. Need help from anyone who might have the answer. thanks.
i have the regular 2005 version and have no problems, it must be the System works, people should bother with these over priced and over rated retail antiviruss, they should just use the avg free antivirus programs, or pay for spyware doctor or something.
when he says govenment copy does he mean that he legally owns it and thats his way of telling us, or is it literally a government copy provided to him for his job or something?
gov't as probably federal, provincial, state or municipal that he borrowed to put on his home computer
ok, ill think about it, thanks ddp. and BTW, hey ddp, is ddp stand for your initials or just something personal, if its too personal, i dont mind, keep it to yourself.
You didn't say which Symantec product you had, but from the problem you are experiencing I would guess that it was Norton Internet Security or something else that had a firewall. When you get the message that you wasn't assigned an IP address it more than likely means that you was unable to contact the DHCP server, which assigns IP addresses on your network. The DHCP server uses UDP port 68 for that and more than likely that port is blocked on your firewall.
