Ive recently been put on the right path by the guys on this site who advised me to go with the q6600 rather than the amd. However the fact that there are several versions of this chip has thrown a spanner in my works. there are several versions of this chip...which is the ideal version? The OEM is going to be just the chip. It's a few bucks cheaper for those who only need that. Retail version will include a stock CPU fan, and whatever booklet/manual stuff is included. If you don't have an old CPU-fan that you were going to re-use you'll need the retail version.
