I'm trying to help my uncle copy his vacation movies onto a DVD-/+R disc, I'm having trouble with the .vro file.

I already did a search and none of them helped me. I'm not sure what model his recorder is, all I know is that it's a Sony Handycam. He has 3 DVD-RW discs (30 min/1.4GB) that he used on his vacation. He wants to take all three and put them on one DVD disc.

Before I continue on, I think I should let you guys know about one problem I'm having with one of the videos. The movie seems okay, but at some point towards the end of the video, the movie starts stuttering. The movie will stop for a few seconds then it'll continue again, it keeps doing this for a minute or two. After a certain point, the movie continues fine and it never stutters again.

Now back to getting the videos on one disc. I've tried a few programs and none of them seem to work. Here's a list of my problems with the programs I've tried.

    Nero VisionExpress:
-When importing the files from the disc, Nero doesn't import one of them. This results in me losing about 5 minutes of the entire video. So instead of the full 26 minutes, I get 21 minutes. That's the only problem I have with Nero.

TMPGEnc DVD Author and Ulead Movie Factory:
-I cannot import the video file at all. When I go to choose the drive the disc is in and select OK, the program will act like it's importing the file. Not sure what happens, but both programs will eventually freeze and I'll get the 'Not Responding' error from Windows.

    DVD Decrypter:
-It'll start working, but when I get about to 67% completion, the time remaining will start going up from 1 minute. The program will eventually stop working or I'll have to abort it. I don't remember what happened.

    Cyberlink PowerProducer 3:
-This program worked fine, but I only got 19-20 minutes of the whole video. Not sure what happened here, but that's all I got.

If anyone has any idea what's going on, please let me know. Thanks and any help is appreciated.

    -STiScooby

    P.S. The disc doesn't have a Video_TS folder. It only has a DVD_RTAV folder with three files in it. VR_MANGR.bup, VR_MANGR.ifo, VR_MOVIE.vro

I have a possible solution. There is a program called "Great Video for Windows". You can find it at this web site. http://www.softarch.com/
The program is available for both Windows and Mac owners. HOWEVER, It only seems to work with VRO files recorded on HITACHI DVD camcorders. Here is why. The Hitachi camcorders record their audio track in an MPEG format. The Sony camcorders use AC-3. For whatever reason, the "GreatVideo" program will only work with VRO's from Hitachi camcorders. My recommendation to you is this. I've got two Hitachi DVD cams and 1 Sony DVD cam. Contact the software manufacturer and ask thim if their program, or perhaps later versions of it will support AC-3 audio from a Sony Handycam. If they can't tell you, and you don't mind spending the money, buy yourself a HITACHI DVD camera, set it for "LINE IN" mode and transfer your recorded video from the Sony to the Hitachi. Then you will have switched from AC-3 to MPEG audio. Please let me know what you think of this. I've searched high and low for a VRO converter that is friendly with the Sony DVD cams but no luck yet. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hi StiScooby,I use Power Director 4 from Cyberlink and It works with relatively few problems when configured as suggested. I think that the Power Producer 3 might be using Magic Cut to shorten the original video. When using Power Director 4, we have control over Magic Cut and if you do not wish to remove any video time, you have the option to do so. My VHS-DVD recorder uses dvd -rw or -r only and some of my problems occurs with the dvd -rw . I' ve recently changed my computer and my DVD rewritable drive is more up to date; so, I copy my dvd-rw to hardisk and use Power Director 4 to author the new version.
