    Hi all --

I am having trouble burning DVDs on my NEC ND-3520. It is mounted in a generic external USB2 case connected (through a Dlink "DUB-H4" USB 2.0 hub) to my Dell Latitude D505 laptop running an updated version of WinXP Home. I am using Nero 6.6.0.16.

I have NO trouble whatsoever burning CDs with this drive (all the way up to 52x). But with DVDs, I only get a successful burn about 20% of the time. The rest of the time, the verification fails, typically with the same types of error: KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST (see the log pasted below). I have tried all of the following to solve the problem, but nothing has worked:

    - Connecting the drive's USB cable directly to the laptop rather than going through the hub
    - Updating the firmware on the NEC to 3.07 (the latest version right now, I believe)
    - Trying different media (including Sony and Ritek)
    - Slowing the burn speed down to 2x

As I said, none of these have increased my success rate.

I would REALLY APPRECIATE any tips that you folks can give me! Thanks!

I've seen other places where a verification error may occur for reasons other than the data on the disc is not correct. Have you tried using the disc, or burning without the verification turned on to see if the disc will work the way it is supposed to?

Yes, they seem to work. But why would I get a verification error? And why would it show up only sometimes?

    Thanks.

The way I seem to understand it, is that the original data has moved or been altered during the burning process. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but if the original data is overwritten or changed in any way, it won't correlate to the burned data.
