Main question: What is the best, most compressed with best quality file type I can create using WinAVI converter, that will work correctly with DVDlab? (Read on to get the full explantion of my problem) Ok, I have 11 files, roughly 174mb each apart from the last which is 689mb. I want all this on one disc. They are episodes and one hour long movie. I usually use Ulead DVD workshop, followed by DVD shrink. The best that combination could do was make a 6.4gig dvd with horrible compression. So, I've decided to go for the WinAVI converter + DVD lab combo. I converted all my files to DVD, which came out as .VOB files, all of which played fine in power DVD. I imported them into DVDlab, made my menu with all of the connections. Said the DVD would be about 3.01gig (This is without the movie, just the 10 episodes). So, I go to compile. It takes roughly 3 minutes, makes a folder with 50mb worth of DVD files, with a working menu that does nothing. Tested a ripped .VOB file I had from a DVD, made a menu with one link and the one file, worked fine. On that same project, imported one of the episode .VOBs, made another link. Compiled. File size was no bigger. First clip worked, second didn't. Why arn't my converted VOB files working?!?!?! If converted vob files don't work or arn't recomended to use, what should I convert my avi's to? Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 maybe? What is the best, most compressed with best quality file type I can create using WinAVI converter, that will work correctly with DVDlab? Thanks for any help
Mpeg-2 @ 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL), at 9000kbps for best quality. You'll fit about 1 hour per disk. If you want to get 10 hours per disk, drop the resolution to half D1 (480x480/576), or even 1/4 D1 (352x240). If you drop the res, you need less bitrate to keep quality...BUT...how it's going to look, when enlarged again, to show on a TV, may not be so good. In reality, I would spread your 10 episodes and 1 hour movie over 2 disks. Using WinAVI (it really does suck you know), encode to mpeg-2 at whatever resolution you want to try. If WinAVI can encode to elementary streams, then do so. If it cannot, then demux the mpg using PVAStrumento, and import the m2v and m2a into DVDLab.
Like I said, I will lose the movie, but would like the 10 episodes. They're roughly about 22 mins each, and yeah as VOB files they only took up a little over 3 gig. So converting to VOB files is a bad idea? If winavi converter sucks, what should I be using? Thanks for the reply.
